What is the deal around here with creating strategies to fill the bench? It is a waste of time.

Go after the highest quality / best players you can get with the money. If you get better players than the starters we currently have, our current starters get pushed to the bench and our bench improves.

To build a contender, you have to increase your top-level talent. Increasing top-level talent automatically pushes your current talent to the bench. Going after current bench players with the assumption they will be on our bench does not increase top-level talent and gets you nowhere but more first-round exits.

What might make them different is who they are and what it'd take to acquire them. Someone with one season left is a risk of leaving, or wanting to be around too long, at too high a price. I'd rather give up an asset to get him than take on Frye, if there's a chance Frye doesn't play again.

Not all blocked shots are created equal. It's like steals: saying somebody who racks up the steals is a good defender is oversimplistic, because some are gamblers.

Gortat is a starting C. I imagine the goal in this scenario is adding a starting C to the team?

Frye only has 2 more years left RR7. And from the talk of this forum, it seems everyone thinks 12-13 mil for a center is the price for who's available. Frye + Gortat = 14 mil. Subtract Freeland from that 14 mil and we have a 11 mil per center. I call that a bargain. And there maybe a chance that frye can actually play; which is house money

You are very true, but see I don't think our defense should be as bad as it should. Teams know our help defense is horrible. Gortat is better at help defense; therefore he would improve our "team defense"; which I believe is the only thing that's important.

Maybe Frye plays. But you don't know that going in, and if he doesn't you can add his additional year onto next season for Gortat. So one year of 17-18 million for him.
I also, though, don't care to spend that much(12-13) on one of the available options like Pekovic, who I think is a poor fit for us.

Gortat is a starting center. I still believe that our starters are good. Maybe really good. Add a help defender, that sets mean picks and can roll to the basket efficiently are all deficiencies we had this season.

Freeland's contract works with Frye. So if Frye doesn't play, our hedge is freeland's contract.

Suggesting we should trade for Frye makes me question if you actualy saw the Blazers play when he was here, he was by far my least favorite player on that team and one of the worst players we ever had as part of our rotation. I honestly wouldn't trade Luke Babbitt for him, he was almost Nolan-Smith bad.
There should be many minimum-salary free-agents who are much better than Frye. Actualy, I don't know many players in the league who are worse.

Frye is the cost of doing business man. Basically he counts for zero value. We are discussing getting gortat. And like I said before; we were going to agree to give a pek max? With this scenario; gortat would equal 11 mil; with excluding freeland and the addition of free.

Frye makes over 7 million dollars more over the next two years than Freeland. What kind of hedge is that? At least if we have Freeland here, he could maybe play for us.

He counts a lot more than zero value. He's owed 14 million dollars the nextt two seasons. I'm happy to take a healthy Frye, he'd be a great addition. But you have one guaranteed year of Gortat, and then a 30 year old looking for a big deal.

    Okay I will explain again. Frye = 14 million, gortat = 10 million. Total 24 Million. Barton = 2 million, freeland = 7.5 million. Total =9.5 million.

Subtract 24 million with 9.5 million = 14.5 million. So gortat is a 7.5 mil center for the next two seasons; if frye turns out to be zero return.

He's a 14 million dollar center for one season. We don't get him for two.

There are other options at center. Sean James for example, the NCAA's all time leader in BPG is doing a very good job for Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Euroleague. Festus Ezeli barely plays for GS since Bogut's return from injury, he's a Joel Pryzbilla type center that would be a great addition.
I don't know much about Gortat or what it would take to get him but Frye is one player I don't ever wanna see playing for us again, he's worse than worthless.
