if you have to choose who to keep between the two of these guys, who do you choose? and who do you think danny will choose? i'll commetn later.
i'd take telfair. i think he's got more potential than rondo, and is a better fit on this team. while both players have different, specific things they excell at, i think telfairs strengths fit in more with this team. all that being said, i would still keep rondo too, because his defensive and rebounding skill would be too valuable to lose. he does many of the little things well, that a lot of other people on this team dont do and could go a long way in helping too. i think that telfair is a great passer, and ultimately that is something this team lacked the past few seasons, a great passer and playmaker. now that we have one in telfair we can now shift our focus more towards defense and post play, which are the other areas we seem to be lacking a bit. in the end i still think both of these guys will be extremely servicable players in their NBA careers, and i would love it if the celtics would hold on to both of them for a while until we can see what they can do.
Too early to tell with either one, IMO. Telfair was in a bad, half-court situation in Portland, playing with players who didn't necessarily want to be there. And Rondo obviously hasn't taken the floor yet. So who knows in the future, but as of right now you definitely have to give Sebastian the benefit of the doubt because he has 2 years NBA experience under his belt. I think Bassy, if given the proper minutes, has a good chance to flourish in our system. We have a lot of young legs that provide energy and quickness, and we play run-n-gun. That's the style Telfair was made to play in. But to be honest about our guard situation, I would rather trade a wing (Wally, TA preferably) and have Telfair/Rondo as our PG's and have Delonte as a SG 90% of the time. But it doesn't look like it will turn out that way. Plus, I would hate to see Wally's shooting go, and I would hate to see TA's defense and energy leave Boston. It's tough man. I don't know what to think anymore because I have run way too many scenerios through my head and so many are appealing. But to answer this topic in one note: you have to give Bassy the edge right now.
Still to early to tell but if I had to pick now I would pick Rondo, because of his defense and broad style of game.
i also pick rondo. he led the team just as well as telfair did in the summer, and his defense is much better. He brings a different more important dimension to the table. some saythe only reason telfair played poorly in Portland was bc it was in a half court set. New flash-- if we want to win in the playoffs, we will have to be able to play in a half court set. Just look at Denver. Arguably the best fast break team in the league, yet they can't get out of the first round, bc when teams slow down the pace on them, they can't win. ronod would be able to play in a half court set bc of his defense. He would still be very effective, although just less effective on the offensive end.
I would take Telfair but I actually think Rondo fits in better with Boston.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>New flash-- if we want to win in the playoffs, we will have to be able to play in a half court set. right. rondo is the better fit. I love telfair's personality, and he will be very entertaining, but Rondo has the same offensive skillset and is a much better defender. we need defense, period.
