I'd say that he's well worth the 2yr/5.3M (total) "Room" Exception after we've used up all of our cap space.

EDIT: Posted before I read JFizzle's post. What he said.

    Makes sense to me.

You simply can't focus on a back up PG before you deal with the glaring hole in the middle.

Maynor would be nice to have, but not at the cost of losing out on a real difference maker in FA or trade because of his cap hold and QO

Why? Please tell me Olshey isn't thinking about keeping him? Renounce him or S&T him and move on

Why Not? For the right price he would make a great back-up big. With the new CBA you never know.

MM.... This guy is putting up 14/10 every night. Pekovic or anybody else we are going to throw a ton of money at isn't gong to put that up. I know he can't play post defense, but who can?

Man you read this thread it really enforces how many options there are for Olshey this summer. This summer is huge for the Blazers and the direction he decides to go with will determine his future as well as the teams. A lot is on the line for the Blazers.

Yes we need a big time center, but haven't we already determined that none of the free agents are very good defensive players? So the unbalanced trade is still the best option in my mind. My question is when is the earliest that trade can be done? I assume as soon as we renounce all of our players after the end of the season. It would be nice to get it done before the draft. I am guessing it may take our pick to pull it off.

Either way it is a huge gamble. Maybe the best option is to keep JJ and Maynor and simply sign Jermaine O'Neal for two years. Again those free agent centers have flaws too. And the ones we want via trade will be hard to pull off.
Olshey has to be a nervous wreck.

Like Pekovic, he is a sieve on defense. Hickson needs to go. we need a center, not a back up PF

This is very true. Both Pekovic and Al Jefferson will get big money and would help us, but not get us to the level we want. Even the guys we have suggested in un-balanced trades have flaws. (Okafor/McGee)

And young Players like Mozgov are unproven and un-skilled.

Not an easy decision for Olshey. I think he will shoot for the moon...... and miss.

This is where he earns his money and should be enjoying that rush. I think just about everyone on this board would trade positions with him.

Jefferson plays enough D that I would take him (depending on price). I wouldn't even bother making an offer to Pek.

Beyond that I would drop down to Dalembert for a two year deal or the lesser Lopez on a three year deal.

I want to see Leonard be developed into the starting center role and I'd rather spend the money on a wing player that can create his own shot. I'd get Leonard some serious schooling this summer from a defensive big man and go after Jermaine O'Neal as a backup C.

The magical PHX training staff gets a lot of the credit for JO's resurgence. Pair him with Jay Jensen, and you've got an albatross contract. This is a guy that was pretty near dead just two seasons ago. We need to look elsewhere for a backup C.

What we need is a bench

The better theory is you improve your starting lineup and push those current guys to the bench. That way you improve both areas.

Indeed, LMA pushes Hickson to the Bench and we upgrade our starting center.

Now SG is debatable, Mathews is a great defender to have in the first unit and also fits as a good three point shooter. IMO he wouldn't make the best 6th man because of his inability to create for himself.

I agree in theory that Wes makes a better starter but I won't hold firm to that untiliI see the other SG that we may (or may not) bring in.

If we dont go after Jefferson or dalembert, I say we throw money at Iggy, try to resign maynor with the room exception and give Jermaine the minimum if he is willing. A two year guaranteed minimum for him.

If Jermaine wants more, give him the room exception and try to sign Nate Robinson for the minimum

You give me Al Jefferson and Maynor for next season I'd be real happy.

Not interested in Jermaine, if only because the level of "we shoulda never traded him" talk around here is already nauseating, and it would skyrocket if we brought him here. Besides, he's so far over the hill he's starting to climb the next hill, lol...
