Had some of our yard dug up for a new sewer recently and wanted to throw down some grass seed....... what kind should I use for our climate. We aren't freaks about our yard, just want to put get some grass growing instead of dirt.

Personally I'd go to Home Depot and get a sun/shade mix and call it good. In other words, I wouldn't put a lot of time into it.

Ya, we don't go crazy when it comes to our yard. Think that's what I'll do. Next post will be from the backyard FAMS!

Home Depot is also where you can find some of your relatives to plant it for you...

HCP, on behalf of all the posters at S2 I want to apologize for this grossly insensitive remark. It was uncalled for and I will speak with Denny (between his pedicure and shoe shine) about banning Wookie. Also, I find it appalling he doesn't realize if it were your relatives we'd be talking lettuce seed and not grass.

Fwiw, I would buy extra seed, whatever you choose (I like a mix of fescue and rye). I would overseed the whole yard and over time, it will all start looking the same. Put it just on the disturbed area and it will look different than the rest of the yard for of a lot of years.

I just like how HCP is cleverly trying to pretend like he doesn't know about lawn and yard care. You soooo funny, FAM!

But we ain't buying what you're selling.

As BP did say, I'd get the sun/shade mix. You should also buy a bag or two (depending on the area) of the turf building dirt, or whatever that stuff is, and put a thin layer over the grass seed. That way, when you put the seed down, birds/bugs won't eat the seeds, and when you water (or it rains), the seeds stay in place. Maybe get some fertilizer, too, and just follow those instructions (but the grass seed bag will have all the info you need).

Just raked up some rocks (huge ones in our area of town) and tossed some seed down. It was a sun/shade mix especially for the NW. But I look and it looks like I should have put more down. I think I'll get some of that turf builder I saw and you guys mentioned.

And as to the racial jokes...... I know I'm 1/2 Mexican, but this motherfucker DOES NOT LIKE YARD WORK! Ironically, there are 2 different neighbors having yard work done by these wetbacks. I should have just had them do it.

Should have recruited at the L*kers game last night. Could have done a 2:1 deal and gotten Jesus airbrushed on your hooptie.

If you are 1/2 Mexican, does that make you the "wet" or the "back"?

Well, his other half is Polish, so doesn't that make him a dryback or a wetfront?

You know the Polish are to Germany what the Mexicans are to the US? No joke.

So while HCP may be only 50% Mexican, he's 100% grunt labor qualified!
