They just found a boy that killed himself at a local middle school. Apparently he stole his dads gun and shot himself in the head at school. I don't know all the details, but it just sucks that a child would do something like that to himself.

We have social media these days, Bullying is being reported more often, I don't think it is occurring more. Crime rates tend to improve with time. Sad story though, I'm sorry to hear about it.
Yeah bullying is so hard on a child in that stage of their lives. Their hormones are changing so rapidly that many become overwhelmed with emotions. When something like bullying happens, usually because they have some abnormal change; they become so overwhelmingly self conscious that they commit suicide.
I feel sorry for the dad. I couldn't imagine if my son used my gun to kill himself. Not that owning a gun is bad; just that the boy used your defense weapon to kill himself. It would be just as bad if the boy used a kitchen knife in his kitchen to slot his wrists.
Social media plays a role, but it's not only in the in the reporting of incidents. With social media there is no safe place for kids who are bullied to go. In the past, kids could find some peace when they went home (or at least left school). In extreme cases parents used to be able to move to a new neighborhood, city or even state. With Facebook, etc, kids still get tracked down and terrorized by their bullies even if they're living thousands of miles away. The one gun control law that I think could really have an effect is all guns should be required by law to be in a gun safe or have trigger locks. If guns are stolen and they were not properly safeguarded, the proper owner should be partially responsible for the crime. All these cases of guns being taken from parents, or stolen from honest citizens are getting out of control. You want to own a gun, fine, but you must keep it securely and rendered unusable by a thief.
Agreed, this is a good idea and I am all for people having whatever gun they want. They need to secure those guns however.
some of it is bullying some of it is the kids are also crazy kids are all conditioned to think they are unique and special and then when the reality of the world hits them, they can't take it.
Why should someone be responsible for having their property stolen? I don't quite understand that. Gun safes or triggers also make it harder for poor people to get them. The state hardly ever revokes regulations, so in the long-run petty laws will continue to accumulate. Gun laws are much more strict in Chicago and its hardly safer than other pro-gun areas.
You're not entitled to facebook or nice opinions though. I think this is what people do not realize, others have the right to be douchebags, it is up to kids (and their parents) to learn how to deal with reality or report crimes if something serious occurs. And I know various people on social media that I can avoid in a variety of ways.
That's like saying you can own a car but have to keep a boot on it at all times. A locked away gun is of no use at all when needed for self-defense. Might as well require gun-owners to wear handcuffs and leave their valuables on the front porch too. Anything legally in my possession or on my property is properly safeguarded simply by being in my possession. Guns are stolen from locked safes all the time, and nobody has invented a trigger lock that can't be removed with a little effort. Once again, we're trying to legislate against freedom rather than address the problem which in this case is evil kids who should be removed from society and school authorities refusing to act on violence in their schools.
I agree. Gun control wouldn't help in this scenario. The kid could have easily downed a bottle of sleeping pills and still get the job done.
So, is it only bullying if you get physically beat? And no, you are not entitled to having a facebook profile, but you you shouldn't be forced to not have one because some punk ass kids are making your life hell.
When your property is deadly, yes, you should take responsibility. I work in a lab and there are several chemicals that I deal with frequently that are deadly. It is my responsibility to properly handle them, lock them up when not in use, and account for every last spec of them. I even have to get govt. approval to use, transport or discard the items. Yes, we should be able to have firearms. But with that right comes responsibility to handle them in such a way to minimize violence against the innocent. A lot of things are difficult for poor people, but those are the breaks. You want to smoke or drink, well, there is a sin tax on those items that make it more difficult for a poor person to afford. A drivers license, Vehicle registration and on and on. Just my 2 cents
It depends where the bullying occurs. In your house you get to make the rules, but facebook is not your property. Oh and in my house I might kick you out for something you consider petty. It all depends on the property owner. Bullying is defined as the violation of property rights. Therefore you're not necessarily entitled to friendly conversations and your opinion is full of "force" anyway, so you're no angel. Political Correctness by the state is the end of freedom. People in the real world own their bodies and have the right to say whatever they want, they own their vocal cords, not you. Where people get to say things is the only debate.
