Brittney Griner came out publicly as a lesbian in an interview with Sports Illustrated's Maggie Gray. Griner was the No. 1 overall pick of the WNBA Draft on Monday. Griner was asked about the differences between men's and women's sports, where the latter has several prominent, openly gay athletes. "I really couldn't give an answer on why that's so different," said Griner. "Being one that's out, it's just being who you are. Again, like I said, just be who you are. Don't worry about what other people are going to say, because they're always going to say something, but, if you're just true to yourself, let that shine through. Don't hide who you really are." Griner was asked if the decision to be candid with her sexuality was difficult. "It really wasn't too difficult, I wouldn't say I was hiding or anything like that. I've always been open about who I am and my sexuality. So, it wasn't hard at all. If I can show that I'm out and I'm fine and everything's OK, then hopefully the younger generation will definitely feel the same way."
What next, our president admits he's black. What breaking news FAMS! Sent from HCPs Baller-Ass iPhone 5...FAMS!
Okay, I'm officially coming out as a heterosexual. I know it is important for all of you to know that.
I'm shocked. Shocked. What's different? How about the assumption that in men's sports, most of the men are heterosexual. In pretty much all women's sports, not so much. Hence, much more acceptable to be around your peers when you are "just being who you are".
You guys are funny, lying that you're not gay. I have already clearly established that I am the only heterosexual on this board. Don't try to knock me off the throne.
Good for her. I guess she's used to people being total assholes about her, so she can take one more thing. I hope she's an inspiration to some young girls who need someone to look up to (no pun intended).
I think it's hilarious that she talks about "the younger generation" as if she's a grizzled old fogey.
It is rumored that there are four NFL players that are preparing to come out at the same time. Stay tuned...
I think it's great that she feels comfortable coming out. To bad it's not the same for ( male) NBA players. You know they are out there.
Just because Paul Allen takes a bunch of hot women to the Blazers games does not mean that he's not............
