Sign and trade hicks on and our pick for pau? Pau starts at center. We would be damn good with him and give Myers time to develop and learn from pau. They may want more in return who knows but they would fill their pf spot with that trade and shed some cap. Along with a lottery pick. How do you guys think that would be for Portland?
Anything that starts with "trade with Lakers" is an immediate no (unless they're sending us a signed Dwight Howard).
Why? I agree with you on truly hated Lakers (Kobe, obviously, or Rick Fox or Sasha Vujacic back in the day), but Gasol has always been kind of above the fray. He's a good guy off the court, too. I would definitely be in favor of that trade. Aldridge would benefit, too - Pau has serious passing skills and could probably replicate the high post alley-oop that Marcus Camby perfected with Aldridge. And it wouldn't really help the Lakers out much - doesn't Pau's contract expire in time for the bumper 2014 FA crop anyway?
Gasol also works best as a C - that's essentially what he played all the times Bynum was injured, and the Lakers thrived.
Anyone who isn't for improving the team by only giving up pieces that will be gone this summer is a fucking moron.pau is a great player.. Don't be ignorant
Our pick is gone this summer? Okay, so let's remove the L@ker part of this for discussion. Pau is normally a good rebounder and excellent passer. He might be a good fit next to LMA, although both have been labelled as soft. I just don't see how you destroy your cap space for a 32-year-old center. If he was a bit cheaper and younger then maybe. Although I think you pull the pick out of the equation. We would be basically giving the L@kers $11mil (not including tax) in savings for them to trade an extra center they don't really need for a PF who would be a better fit. If Nash could keep healthy, I think a Howard/Hickson lineup would be something he could feast on--with Kome out of the way.
Just for one season. It's a no-risk acquisition! And he's better than anybody else we're likely to be able to get.
Considering how much talk there is going around about us trying to trade for a center this summer, yes I would consider our pick long gone. A lineup of dame Wes nic lma and pau would be great for us. Paul's contract is up in 2014 so we would be heald hostage. Also gives Myers time to develop and learn. Ppl need to stop focusing on what trades would do for the other team and focus on how it would help the blazers.
Your original post implied that we would be trading things we could not keep for Gasol. We could keep the pick, and might. You cannot pretend that it doesn't have long term value to us. I'm not totally against the premise, I just wouldn't give up very much value on our end. And yes, you do have to consider how much value you are adding to another team as part of the negotiation. Even if you you don't care about the pieces you are giving away, you still have to be aware of how much they may be worth to the other party. I thought Pau had two years left. For one year I could see trading a signed Hickson and some non-starter parts that are not Leonard. I still think that would be enough.
Do you really think the 10th pick in the draft and hickson would help them that much? Giving the lakers cap space really doesntn matter considering from what it seems they don't care about the new luxury tax penalties
It saves them at least $20m up front, replaces a 32 year old backup center with a 24 year old PF, at a lower salary. Yeah, I think it helps them a lot. If they are sure they have Howard long term, placing a young PF beside him would be great for them--all that and save money too.
meh, don't want another guy that you have to convince to rebound and play defense. We need a high motor guy that is a shot blocker.
