I have never met more judgmental people than at the churches I've attended in the past. If you wish to have a relationship with God, I don't think you have to go to church.
Virtually every Sunday. Always look forward to it. Awesome praise & worship and insightful teaching. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. ~Hebrews 10:25
Odd, maybe you should find another church. The last two churches I've been apart of were some of the most loving and kindest people I've ever met, and I've made quite a few friends.
I agree. Mars Hill is pretty cool (very young crowd). I'd still be going there, but have gotten very connected with a fellowship much closer to my home.
Went many times, to many different denominations. Bible study group and camp as a youth. Always felt welcome. Learned a lot about people.
I really think Church is a good thing but I don't like it when people seem to think Church is going to save them. I agree with what JFizzleRaider said:
I went to church for three years. Eventually I left because I couldn't stand the hypocrisy and fake smiles. One of the last straws was when the pastor told me that he would feel cheated if he spent his life living according to the Bible only to find out there's no heaven when he dies. You should live your life according to the Bible because you think it's the right thing to do, not because you are afraid of God and not because you want to go to Heaven.
WOW, The outcome so far is almost startling! Although it's only at 9 I thought the first two would be on top.
The number of people that say they go is always out of whack with actual attendance statistics (aka social desirability bias).
I said I go occasionally but that depends on what occasionally means. I go roughly once a month. Some would call that rarely but that wasn't an option.
I go every week unless I'm sick. I'm not sure how many other churches do this, but every function of the LDS (Mormon) congregation is handled by members of the congregation. For example, one of my brother's teaches Sunday School to the 12 and 13 year olds. Another brother works with 11 year old scouts. My mom is in charge of the children ages 3-12 for her congregation. My wife and I work with single people ages 18-30. It would be pretty tough for my mom to only go once a month with the "calling" (assignment) she has. So in the LDS church, you should pretty much expect to go every week. There are obviously those who don't, and they wouldn't typically be given assignments that would requirement them to be there every week, but hopefully you get the idea of what I'm saying.
