I know we have heard this before that the big boss says the job is safe but I also know that this could just be a cover up so the rumor doesn't get bigger. To my understanding the Blazers have missed the boat on Karl once? Either that or the just passed on him? I can't remember it was one of those though but I do remember Karl was interested in Portland at the time. I have always like Karl though.

There has been much buzz around Denver about the future of George Karl, after the Nuggets coach lost 4-2 in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs to the Warriors.

"George is under contract for next year. At this point in time, we haven't really given any thought to making any change whatsoever," Nuggets president Josh Kroenke told The Denver Post and nuggets.com. "As we do at the end of every season, we'll have internal meetings and George will obviously be a major part of them. We won 57 games and in my mind, he should hands down be the NBA coach of the year. We'll all put our heads together and try to figure out what happened (in the playoffs) and why it happened. We were without our second-leading scorer, and some benefit of the doubt should be given to a coach with well over 1,000 wins without one of his leading scorers (Danilo Gallinari) in the playoffs."

    Absolutely not.

1994: His #1 seed team becomes first to lose in first round
1995: His #4 seed team loses to #5 seed
Early 2000s (2002?): His Bucks team leads the division in March but fails to make the playoffs
2013: His 57 win #3 seed loses in the first round in 6 games.

Yes, he's been to the Finals (where he lost) and a couple more conference Finals (with Milwaukee and Denver) but overall, he has shown an inability to focus in the playoffs. No thanks.

I want Doc Rivers. There's a guy who knows how to get max effort out of his guys in the playoffs when it matters.

You need to read between the lines to find what's important.

    Don't be that glass-is-half-empty guy.

George Karl would be an enormous improvement over any coach we have or have had probably since Rick Adelman was here.

I know some of you will disagree but I think Rick Adelman is a little overrated. People talk about him like he is one of the best coaches ever.

I like Adelman, but he was given some solid rosters. Now, he has one that just doesn't fully jive, and they aren't fully jiving in the win column.

Don't care for the TWolves but they did have a tremendous amount of injuries this year. Doesn't matter if you have the players if they don't get on the floor.

Cancer is tough to recover from. If I was George I would take it easy and take care of myself.
He still does not look healthy to me.

Didn't Nate McMillan coach a team to the playoffs that led the NBA in games missed by injury, including the #1 overall pick missing the entire season?

He sure did. As I said I don't care about the TWolves. Even with all our injuries we had more talent then they did though.

    Not disputing that.

But I do dispute your use of "there" vs. "their".

Hmm ... really? I'm not sure about that one. One coach adjusted his team to have LMA lead them into the playoffs. The other has had a healthy Kevin Love for a full season and didn't make the playoffs.

EDIT - although I do realize that saying a "healthy" Kevin Love is a misnomer. He misses a lot of games.

I think Nate was underrated by the S2 fan base. That being said, I'm not sold on him being as good as some of the credit he receives. I always thought he was the perfect coach to teach a young, high-potential team. But he's not the one to get you over the hump, IMO. He has not yet developed that last piece of taking a talented roster and pushing them over that hump.

Didn't Kevin Love miss half the season or more?

    Edit: Just saw your edit.

Karl is a very good regular season coach.

On the flip side, he has a career losing record in the playoffs. He also has a history of whining to the media and throwing his players under the bus when things go wrong.

oddly enough, when Rick wasn't given solid rosters, his coaching record reflects it.
