What would you supposed would pry that deal? i would suspect we would have to include Aldridge in this deal. Personally I think that's too much.
Detroit hired Phil Jackson to hire their coach. Odd. Why would he choose Nate and why would they need Phil's help with that decision? Are they hoping Phil will pick himself?
Hmm could it have to do with how they are setup in wanting to run there offense through there big guys (Drummond/Monroe) and a coach who could implement something similar to the Triangle is what they want? Only reason I could think of them hiring phil jackson to help them pick a coach.
Apparently Phil and the DET Owner are very good buddies. You would have to think Brian Shaw would be the favorite if Jackson is picking the coach.
I think trading Matthews would be a mistake. There are better players out there, but are there better/tougher players as willing and as able to play their role? Plus, he's a huge locker room glue guy (no homo)...
If Blazers are looking for a trading partner: Adrian Wojnarowski @WojYahooNBA With hiring of Boston's McDonough, Suns direction is clear: No more stopgap short-term free agents, rebuild through multiple picks in draft.
The Dude heard on the radio as well that this hiring made the trading of Marcin Gortat more likely as well. They even mentioned Portland by name as a team that would be first in line to acquire him. Their deal was #10 and Meyers Leonard for Gortat and Dudley. They also mentioned that Portland would still have several million to sign more players. I count around 4 million left. But that is enough for Jermaine Oneal and re-signing Eric Maynor and Elliott Williams perhaps. Lillard/Maynor Matthews/Barton/Williams Batum/Dudley Aldridge/Claver/Freeland Gortat/Oneal Playoffs?
If that is the deal then make it done! I sign off on that trade. The only concern (for me) would be that Gortat expires after next season. We would have his bird rights and could theoretically offer him the most however.
Maybe an 8 seed if healthy. I'll take one good guard to play 30mpg at a high level over < 20mpg of Maynor + Dudley.
In a year or two, I think Leonard will be better than Gortat. And Dudley is a decent player but has less value than the #10 pick. That doesn't sound like a great deal.
I agree. I think Gortat would be the starter for a couple years, then when Leonard is ready, he can take over the duties. Regardless, it's really a win win, since Gortat is a damn good pick and roll player. He can teach Leonard a few things during his development.
Exactly. He can also teach some effort on D, rebounding, etc. Gortat is, what, 29-30? So he's got a couple of good seasons remaining, but as he fades, Leonard should be stepping up.
I'd probably trade either #10 or Leonard for Gortat, but certainly not both... that'd be a horrible deal, especially if Gortat decided to leave next summer in Free Agency.
NOt sure what you guys saw out of Leonard that made you think he will be at Gortat's level in a year or two.
In a year or two Leonard is going to put up better stats than 15.4 pts/game, 10.0 rbs/game and 1.5 blks/game?
