List what you think is the key to USA having success in FIBA play. I'll put things in later on some of the things I think would make the difference.
1. Pure Veteran Point Gaurd2. 2 Shotblockers (they shoulda gone after Ben Wallace and Garnett)3. A Gaurd Able To Dribble Penetrate Whenever He Wants4. Bunch Of Role Players Such As (Bowen, Prince, Howard)5. After Seein This Last Loss Learn How To Defend Pick n Roll
I agree. I like the way the rules of International play except for the goal tending part. The full throttle zone (without 3 seconds) forces teams to be more unselfish. Also the shorter 3 point line encourages teams to work on their outside game and will make jump shooting a higher priority instead of just athleticism.
OFF TOPIC but;i liked the way they referee FIBA games, more physical............NBA playoffs should be the same way, just like in the 80's.EDIT: & 90's too :winkglasses:
If i was in control of picking the teams for International play, this is who i'd pick and why. PG-Chauncey BillupsGood veteran point guard who can control the tempo of the game. He doesnt turnover the ball and can is a playmaker for his team. He is also really clutch and can shoot and make the open 3. Good on the ball defender that can also take his defender on the blocks since he is big for point guard standards.SG-Kobe BryantHe is the superstar of the group who can do anything he wants to on the offensive end. Nobody can gaurd him on the planet. He can shoot from outside, post, drive, drive and dish, etc. He is a great passer and plays excellent defense. Isnt afraid to take over the game and knows time and situation. SF-Josh HowardAn excellent defender and rebounder for the 3 spot. Will do anything to help the team. Scores points even though the offense doesnt run though him. He's the gel for the team. He does all the little stuff to win. PF-Kevin GarnettGreat defender and rebounder. Is big enough and has a ton of experience guarding all the "bigs" on the international teams. Can keep up trouble Dirk, Pau, etc. Doesnt need the ball to have an impact on the game. Great shotblocker along with Duncan that can clog the lane from players driving and cutting towards the basket. Will do anything for the betterment of the team. C-Tim DuncanVetern player who plays great on both ends of the court. Low post player that can go against anyone and score. Same thing as Garnett on defense. BENCHPG Jason Kidd-Great point guard, similar to BillupsSG-Michael Redd-Great ShooterSF-Ron Artest-Gives U.S team toughness and great defenderPF-Dwight Howard-Great shotblocker and rebounder, similar to GarnettC-Shaquille O'Neal- Experience and great low post playerPG-Jason Terry-Can play both gaurd positions, great 3 point shooterC-Marcus Camby-Great shotblocker and rebounderNow i know i left off some big names, but this is how i'd do it. Now i could do with some subsitutesMichael Redd-Paul PierceRon Artest-Bruce BowenJosh Howard-Tayshaun Prince/Shane Battier/ Shawn MarionBut thats for the most part how i would go. I think this team would be very solid and wouldnt of lost.

I'm pretty sure Pip and MJ got some nasty bruises after playing the Knicks in the playoffs. Then again, I think Pat Ew got some nasty bumps on his head by getting dunked on that often by those same two.But I really agree with you. All those whistles are really slowing the game down.

Josh Howard is not even half as good as Carmelo or Lebron. How would u have him there? please explain how he is near as good. And if you say anything about "roles" your dumb.
Im pretty sure he said that cause he is a mavs fan, also pjcolpitts that team that you formed is too slow they would get their asses run off of the court.

Just because i left Melo and James off, i'm a moron? How bout i left them off because they would be taking shots away from Bryant and Duncan? How bout because in the grim reality of it, LeBron and Melo SUCK at defense? How bout because i would be building a TEAM, not an All-NBA team. We see how far this "all-star" cast of talent got us in the FIBA, huh? As i see it, this team would play as a team better than this last team. Also, if you dont read a little bit farther down, I just didnt say Josh Howard, I said, Or Marion or Battier as well. If you dont understand that those 3 players are "GEL" players. They help hold the team together by giving up personal glory for the betterment of the team. If i put Carmelo or LeBron at the 3 spot on that team, it would in my opinion, would make the team chemistry a little worse. You dont need 12 number 1 options on the team. You need 2 or 3, and then a bunch of role players. What's the difference between making this team and any other team that would play in the NBA? There is no difference. If a team like that could win in the NBA, then it would surely win in International play. Does Argentina or Spain have 12 Pau Gasol's and Manu Ginobli's? No, they don't they both have 3 or 4 great players and then a great supporting cast of player that know thier role and know how to make the team better and who will put thier ego's aside and play great team basketball and represnt thier country with prude.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (JRICH23 @ Sep 1 2006, 04:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Im pretty sure he said that cause he is a mavs fan, also pjcolpitts that team that you formed is too slow they would get their asses run off of the court.</div> Tell me JRich, Who on this team is so slow that we would get ran off the court? Who in International play is so damn fast that they run a fast break none stop and run off everyother team off the court? I dont think 1 team is that team. Howard, Kidd, Billups, Bryant, Dwight Howard, Michael Redd, etc can surely run with the best of them. In no way would this team get ran off the court. Plus with 2 point guards in Billups and Kidd, they would control the tempo so that players like Shaq and Duncan could be effective.

They lose ONE game this entire time and you say that they have bad defense. Even if they did have bad defense, it obviously didnt affect them. Do you think that Josh Howard would have been able to stop a team from shooting that wel. Do you also honestly think that if you put either Lebron or Carmelo on that team instead of Josh Howard, they wouldnt be as good? You are speaking as a homer....straight up. As for Shawn Marion or Shane Battier, they have BOTH played on the USA team before and they didnt do sh*t. Shawn Marion played for the team that got 3rd and they lost like 3 games the entire tournament. That team obviously didnt work out too well. As for Shane Battier, he is playing minimal playing time for the team now....and his defense isnt making that big of a difference. If you have actually watched them play, he would play in the low block and he got pushed around by bigger stronger players. As for you mentioning Spain and Argentina, it is totally different. The other countries have COMPLETE different mind sets than the USA. They put their sole in to every game. Also, look how long they have been playing together. You cant just put a team together and expect them to absolutley rape every single game. So the US lose one game, are they already "a team that isnt working". That is crap. And that theam that you listed would not do that good at all. I guarantee you that they would not do NEAR as good as this current team.

I agree with pjcolpitts on a lot of this. Josh Howard is a great glue guy to put in the lineup. Here is my lineup. PG Billups- Defense and Outside ShootingSG K. Bryant- Teams main scorer and can play defenseSF Shawn Marion- Rebounding and defense along with his great dive cuts to the basket. Helps Movement on the court. PF Tim Duncan- Rebounding and defense and occasionally a scorer.C Ben Wallace- Rebounding and defense once again. Also he would be one of the few centers that can guard the perimeter and the interior. BenchSG WadeSF Josh HowardPG HinrichPF GarnettC CambyPG C. PaulAlmost everyone on this team is great on defense and the bigs are good at rebounding and active enough to guard the perimeter. I thing that is the key to success.SG L. James
I agree completely with pjcolpitts. USA needs a TEAM not a bunch of allstars. The lineup he described would work, they have designated scorers, defenders, passers, and glue guys. This team would have great success and NEWSFLASH: putting LBJ or Carmelo on a team doesn't solve all the problems. The only change I'd make would be to have a guy like Wade to back up Kobe in order to keep the pressure on the other team's defense.
ya'll aint notice how bad Lebron actually played in the games?... only good game was da argentina game but other than that he was not dat good... ALOT of turnovers

Care to explain...And also, when you play at that fast of a tempo, alot of turnovers are expected. Alot of players had alot of turnovers. It is going to happen to alot of good players.

I don't think duncan, shaq,KG and kidd want to play in the olympics anymore because they already played in some before and they turned down invitations alreadyBTW i am not sure about this but during the finals i remember them saying josh howard is so commited to his foundation that he turned the olympic people down
