Its kind of chicken and egg, but recently a lot of teams have been going with defensive role players at SG in the starting unit with explosive 6th men coming off the bench. The Mavs won a ring with DeShawn Stevenson starting and Terry getting big minutes off the bench, Memphis with Tony Allen/OJ Mayo, OKC with Sefolosha and Harden/Martin, San Antonio with Danny Green/Manu. If your starting unit has enough firepower, you're only shooting yourself in the foot by adding another offensive oriented player who isn't going to get many touches. I think with Lillard, LMA, and Batum you're fine with a defense/3 pt shooting specialist starting at SG. Your second unit definitely needs some more punch.
I actually agree with this sentiment. I'd start Freeland too. Give Matthews and Hickson ~32mpg off the bench, and never have fewer than three of our five good players on the floor at any one time. Never happen, but I'd like to see it.
I'd go Leonard over Freeland too, if he were healthy. I'd keep Claver as Batum's backup though--don't want too many rookies in the starting lineup.
Bump Chad Ford thinks CJ's stock will skyrocket during workouts. Size wise, length and height, is comparable to Eric Gordon. This guy has the skillset that fits in perfectly next to Lillard. Before the foot injury he was shooting over 50% from three.
If he is the BPA at 10 then I say take him. Not worried about his broken foot since he is not a center. Not worried about his size either. We need scoring off the bench too. He can supply that.
That's not who he'd be. McCollum has significantly better ball-handling ability and has more of an in-between game due to his much higher release point. Essentially, C.J. has the skill and craftiness to get away with not having elite physical tools.
