This was a tough one to judge, very close debate.Winner: Hang Eleven: Did an exceptional job of countering Celtic's points, you showed him that those 70 players could also play in the 80's despite being old/past there prime. Bold move not using any stats Celtic but I think it might have hurt you this time, Hang provided good stats to back up his arguements.
My bad, I totally forgot about this. Been so busy lately... I don't know when I will have the time to actually sit and read the whole thing, but I'll try to do it soon. However, any of the other judges should feel welcome to go ahead and post their decisions as well.
After reading through the debate, I have to give my vote to CelticBalla32. Why? He brought up numerous great points, and refuted Hang Eleven's points better than than Hang Eleven refuted CB's points. It also seemed to me that Hang Eleven got some of CB's points mixed up and/or didn't understand them clearly enough, and that in the end hurt his ability to counter CB's points effectively, in my mind.As of right now, it is tied at 1-1.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (CelticBalla32 @ Sep 12 2006, 01:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>OK so who is the final/deciding judge?</div>I don't know, but I think we established that from now on we would be going to a best-of-five format, meaning the person who gets three votes first would advance. So really you guys are waiting on three other judges to vote. Hang Eleven is one of them, but he obviously can't vote in this match-up.I'll make a post in the discussion thread to see if I can't get the other judges to post their decisions here soon.
I've just read the whole thing. and I want to say great debate. my winner is Celticsballa32. I thought that his point with the '85 lakers being much more athletic and able to keep up with today's athleticism. that is huge I think. not to metnion any team with magic in his prime will be able to complete today. He's one of history's biggest impact players. hang eleven, I thought you hurt yourself when you mentioned that stuff about the 720 dunks and stuff. first of all, that's not even the nba. secondly, it is undeniable that there is much more to the game today than 30 years ago.2-1. CB32
So.. who else is judging this? At the very least we need at least 1 more judge, maybe 2 if the next judge votes for Hang Eleven.Judges, where you at?
My choice is CelticBalla32. I just read through the whole debate, and I felt that he gave great reasons why his choice was right, but what he did moreso than Hang Eleven was show why the opposition was wrong. I feel overall he just had a better debate.
Alas, I parried, fenced, and sidestepped, but from the very beginning, I knew I was going to lose. I didn't even really believe what I was saying. If I had posted first, I would have chosen the opposite side.People talk about choosing basing on who had the better debate, but when you're wrong from the start, it's really hard to "why the opposition was wrong".
Nice! Hey Hang Eleven, good debate man. You raised some good points as well. I feel it hurt you to say "I am so not confident about this." But again, good debate man.
