Venezuela should be as wealthy or wealthier per capita as the US or Canada. Instead, they're destitute. Yet, the path of Venezuela is the one we have chosen.
My favorite part is blaming opposition groups and private industry for somehow manufacturing the crisis and this gem from the Commerce Minister at the end, "We will bring in 50 million to show those groups that they won't make us bow down."
I pity the Caracas garbage collectors. Of course, they may not bow down, but they'll certainly squat.
It's all so predictable, isn't it? There are many things in life that you cannot see coming, but with price controls and shortages it seems too obvious to doubt. Ed O.
