The Saskatoon singer, who performs folk and jazz music, started falteringly in front of the large crowd and a Portland team which is not only based in the United States, but also has 10 Americans in its lineup. The rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner seemed to unravel once Normand got to the third line. Then the "whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight" was bowdlerized into "those broad stripes and bright stars... at the dawn's early light." The Credit Union Centre crowd seemed amused initially. Eventually, thousands of Canadians came to the rescue and completed the lyrics.

    Alexis Normand @Alex6Normand

I'm embarrassed and deeply sorry. I wish I'd had more time to learn the American anthem. Thanks so much for the crowd's help!

Love how she threw in a "rifles red flare" in there.

The fact that she screwed up the words is not as embarassing as the fact that she is a horrid singer, changing tonal centers (centres) about 3 times and ending up on a different pitch than she started. Her ears are painted on.

Never trust a girl from Saskatoon.

I like the tone of her voice. She just didn't prepare enough. And it's very nerve-wracking singing in front of so many people. I know the anthem inside and out but I go over the words in my head over and over before I do it. I'm terrified I'll forget. Roseanne was the worst ever. Lots of other people like Mark Jackson's wife may know the words but they have terrible voices and embellish too much. I think this girl has a good anthem in her. She just didn't prepare enough. If only Cheeks had been there.,

Even with all of the interruptions, it was still faster than most.
