-Defensive Player of the Year Award could be Defensive Guard, Defensive Forward, and Defensive Center.DGOTY-Sidney Moncreif AwardDFOTY-Micheal Cooper AwardDCOTY-Bob Lanier Award-Point Guard of the year, SG of the year, SF, PF, and C award of the year. PGOTY-Bob Cousy AwardSGOTY-Jerry West AwardSFOTY-Elgin Baylor AwardPFOTY-Dolph Schayes AwardCOTY-George Mikan Award-Perhaps a Most Improved Team of the year, and a Best Team Defense Award.Just a couple ideas, what do you think? It's not really based on anything.
I like the best defensive guard, forward, and center awards. I like the idea of splitting the DPOY up because it is hard to judge between a guard and big man's defense.I think the awards are generally for players, not teams though. And isnt the best player of each position somewhat like All NBA first team?
Mmmm no. That takes away from the point. It's a mega honor to get those awards, and it's (not supposed to be) no easy feat. Having more awards lets more guys get awards, but brings their worth and value down.
That's too many awards being handed out and I don't get the individual position awards as more players are playing out of them these days and aren't those what All NBA first, second and third teams are for?
Yeah, having an All NBA 3rd team is stupid. Keep it to two. Or as Kenny "The God damn Jet" Smith says in my NBA Live game every time I play the dunk contest, "Keep it Simple Stupid. KISS"
It's really good the way it is. I don't think any awards need to be added. Maybe Interior Defender and Perimeter Defender? I'd probably rather keep it as one award though.Maybe an All NBA Offense Team?

they don't need a best defensive guard or point guard of the year or whatever, that's what all-nba and all-defense teams are for.
The only award I believe they should consider installing is a POTY award to distinguish talent from valuableness. Take last season as example, Nash won the MVP because of how valuable he was to his team but many people believed it should have gone to a player such as Kobe or Lebron because they are/were the more talented player. This would serperate the hostility arised from the valuableness vs talent argument and would honor those who had a better individual season (cough KG, cough AI, cough Kobe) from those who are awarded more for value (Nash, Kidd, Duncan). 05/06 example:MVP: Steve NashPOTY: Lebron James

Kobe is the definition of being valuable. One injury to kobe and were thinking about oden.edit: Btw if Nash wins mvp i'm going to shoot stern.Lebron's more valuable the nash, don't kidd your self. Cavs would cease to exist without lebron. Suns without nash? 30 wins.
I don't deny that Kobe is very valuable to the Lakers because he is. But he isn't up there on the same level of Dirk, Duncan and Nash because they not carry their teams but they carry them to the top of the league while Kobe floated around the 3rd tier teams. True w/o Lebron or Kobe the Cavs and Lakers would stink it up but the same can be said for the Suns w/o Nash or a Duncan-less/Dirk-less Spurs/Mavs team . Without Nash the Suns offense turns into that of Dick Bennett's Washington State offensive gameplan of 5 guys standing around waiting for someone to do something (anyone familar with Pac-10 basketball knows this too well), and without their offense there would no point in them even showing up to the arena.Lakers - Kobe go from a playoff team to a lottery team with no go to guySuns - Nash go from title contender to lottery team with no one to run the offense. They both would fall practically off the face of the earth the only difference is how far they drop from. This is why I mentioned the POTY award as it would take into account individual talent instead of an individual's impact on one's team.
But Dirk/Nash/Duncan's supporting cast are superior. Nash plays in a system implemented by D'antoni which makes players look better. Dirk's team is stacked at nearly every position. The mavericks rely on depth, it's the reason why they won 60 games. The spurs have veteran leadership, a defensive anchor, the best perimiter defender in the league and one of the best pg's in the league.Kobe has Lamar and phil.

No other player in the league can match both his shooting/scoring and playmaking abilities and the Suns supporting cast (save Marion) is too dependant on Nash playing effectively. Without him the system falls down the drain and the talent level surrounding Nash goes with it.The Mavs without Dirk would be similar to the Lakers without Kobe in that they lose their go to guy and would rely on a 2nd tier player (Terry/Odom) to carry the team. They do have depth which would more then likely keep them in the playoffs but they would fall from title contender to Denver Nuggets or Memphis Grizzles status of 1st round fodder. The Spurs without Duncan would be in a world of hurt. They would lose their defensive anchor, the go to guy and their best play maker. To top that off they would lose their only established post player and would be forced to rely on nobodies (Bonner, Elson, Butler) and an aging wing big in Robert Horry.
