    Pork, it seems like standard operating procedure. Unless they actually explicitly told you that the rent would not go up, which I don't think is what you are saying. And if it was poor phrasing by saying the "terms would remain the same" I would look at that as a miscommunication rather than something shady or done with malice. To them, "terms" may have easily been # of roommates, pets, smoking, and all the other rules to rent. You said they told you 6 weeks ahead, which seems pretty reasonable to me. If you had a problem with the rent going up, or with the landlords being shady, it was during those 6 weeks that you should have been looking for a new place. I understand fully that moving sucks, and you feel like you kind of have to get stuck with whatever the landlord stipulates, but the truth is you don't. It's an open market, and if you are paying too much, go find better. It sucks, but that's what comes with renting. I rent right now, my place costs significantly more than when i moved in, but thats because the area has become a trendy location and i find it worth it to pay the extra.
