I would trade KP if I thought it would get us Oladipo. But it won't. It just won't. So don't trade him: he's better than the #13 pick.* I'd rather give up a future #1.

    *Unless it's Dieng or Schroeder.

Even if he wants to come over, as a 2nd round pick, he doesn't have a cap hold.

How long will he wait before he demands to come over? Some times they get impatient and sign a long Euro deal with a tougher buy out. I thought I read that he is ready now. How does that work btw? If a player wants to come over and the US team does not want him that year, what kind of leverage , if any, does the player have?

I think with first round picks, it's primarily up to the player. I can be wrong, but I think because there is a set rookie salary, they can almost just take that. I think that might be what happened with Sergio and maybe Batum, where Blazers thought they might go back over for a year, but both just wanted to come immediately. With second round picks, only option the player would have, I believe, is to sit out a year without playing at all, and become a free agent.

If true that really sucks for a player to be drafted in the 2nd round. The team should be forced to renounce the player's rights if they don't want him. The Euro league is not our farm system.

Shit, if he wants to come over, we'll take him! Maybe he lights a fire under Claver, or maybe we trade Claver. But I have a feeling he'd get ahead of him in the rotation just because of his intensity. Claver's skilled and more athletic, but seems like a real wallflower. KP is intense.

On the other hand: if you look exciting enough, you're not bound by the first-round-pick rookie scale, so you can get rich quick! And presumably the best thing to do is to latch on with a powerful agent who will threaten to punish the team unless they sign you or deal you.

Well, the huge benefit for those guys to be drafted in the 2nd round is they aren't held to the rookie scale salaries. So you can come over as a 2nd round pick, and get a 3 million a year contract, whereas guys in the late 1st get about a million or so. So a lot of guys will say they won't come over if they are picked in 1, and then tend to go very early in 2. I think that's what happened with Pekovic.

Claver looked just fine towards the end of the year for NBA rookie. Decent rotational player.

True. But the team that drafts you can basically prevent you from coming over if they are not willing to pay the price you may deserve. No one is going to sit out a year. So you are kind of screwed.

Aren't you even worse off as a first-rounder? After all, teams are more likely to offer you a minimum one-year contract and see what you're like than commit to a full first-round pick deal. Petteri Koponen will almost certainly never be brought over, but he probably would if he'd been a second rounder.

I agree. I was hoping for more, though. And I think he could be more if he was less reticent. Feistiness counts for a lot.

Yeah that sucks too. Bottom line is if a player wants to come over and the team that drafted you doesn't want you that year, then you should be able to become a free agent immediately. Now if you are not ready to come over, then that is a different story. The teams obviously should be able to retain the rights to said player.

The apparent lack of interest from Neil is confusing. Kostas blew up this year and looked better than Claver ever did in Spain.

Maybe his agent is throwing 3 mil a year out as a minimum and it is not conducive with Neil's plan for this summer. He may be ignoring the whole thing until he lands a player he is targeting.

I don't think we know enough. Remember, foreign agents are even more prone to throwing out shit than the agents over here.

Bouna Ndiaye disagrees and wants you to take that back.

I know all about foreign agents because of James Bond movies, and I say they are secretive.

Apparently KP has been learning from his future teammate Batum already:

Olympiakos has already lost 2 straight games to its bitter rival Panathinaikos in the Greek finals, and was about to lose the third when:

They take their basketball seriously in Greece...

Edit: the game was ended early and Panathinaikos wins in a sweep.
