Everyone says Magic Johnson was a GREAT passer and probably the greatest PG in NBA history. Bird was a pretty good passer for his size, as well. Underrated in that department. He even averaged a career-high 7.6 apg in '86-'87. That, and to go along with his rebounding, his stats are pretty impressive. I honestly dont know who to say. I might post in here later.
I'm going with Magic Johnson. He led the Showtime Lakers. He was a great passer, scorer, rebounder. He was unbelievable, and showed his greatness in the playoffs.
Magic Johnson is the 2nd greatest player to ever play the game behind Jordan. Magic was an outstanding passer and could make unbelievable baskets and countless gamewinners. Magic was also a leader in a Lakers showtime team that just woulnt be showtime without him. Magic will always be remembered as the best point guard to ever play the game. Even Larry Bird regarded Magic as "God in Basketball shoes". I would choose Magic over Larry anyday.
all i can say is as much as i hate the celtics, i got all kinds of respect towards larry bird...........both of them changed the NBA. Those 2 played the game the right way. MJ made his team better by scoring, while magic and larry made their team better by involving their teammates."Magic Johnson & Larry Bird"
I'm gonna say Magic, just because he was better overall on the offense end, so much so that he is probably the greatest overall offensive threat of all time. But the one thing Bird had on Magic was defense. he wasn't the quickest, but he was very smart and knew how to play D.

Yes that was Bird's greatest strength on D since he didn't have the quickness or athleticism, but one on one he wasn't bad due to his fundementals. Either way he was considerably better than Magic, who played little D.

I agree with the above poster that said that Magic was the second best player of all time. Where else are you going to find someone who can TRUELY play all 5 positions at a higher level than most in the game? He is one of the greatest passers of all time, could score, play D, and could LEAD. One part where I felt Bird lacked was leadership. He led by example out on the court, but for the most part, did his thing and kept quiet.Bird was a great player, without a doubt top 5 of all time, but Magic was hands down better.
I agree Magic was better, but leadership is interesting between these 2. Bird was a great leader, he could carry his team to victory, was a great teammate, and while wasn't very vocal he would coach his teammates and/or tell them to get out of the way so he do his thing. But a PG coming in as a rookie in NBA finals when best player is out to play center position and totally dominate is something EVERYONE will always look up to you for.
