Was reading around on twitter IDEAS (Dwight - Hou, Por Asik)

It seems that Asik would have to be moved to clear salary cap room for Dwight to Houston.

I don't recall who tweeted it, but someone said Asik to Por is a viable option. However; they were scared Portland would decline the trade because it would make Houston a dominant team, of which Portland would have to go through.

What do you think? Do you think teams would be willing to help HOU land Dwight?

I'd love to try and pry Parsons away from them, also.

 

If we dont, I would think a team in the East would be willing. Could care less if it made Houston better.

 

Given that the three most likely destinations for him are LA, Houston and Dallas, does it make any difference? May as well get something out of the deal.

 

LA doesn't have anyone close to Harden, Parsons, Lin to create the space around Dwight, nor do the Mavs, really. Houston would probably overtake OKC as the team to beat in the West with Dwight. Shooters + a dominant center is the recipe that worked in Orlando, but Harden is much better than anyone on those Orlando teams.

I'd say we help them, if we could somehow pry Parsons away as well. Either way, I think you have to help just because you have to have faith in the process you have planned for your team.

Lillard/Wes/Batum/Aldridge/Asik isn't anything to laugh at, plus we would still have cap space.

Just interesting to think that people are wary of helping Hou land Dwight, because they'd be too good.

 

If Howard didn't make the Lakers a serious contender what makes people think he'll make Houston a serious contender? I don't think we wouldn't go after Asik out of fear that it would help out the Rockets.

 

I agree that Howard on the Rockets doesnt really scare me unless he decides to develop his game which he has done little to none of so far. But at the same team people are so worried about what that would do for the Rockets instead of realizing with a center like Asik, a better defense scheme and a few bench pieces we could as good if not better. No one is saying that Asik would make us a championship contender but if it puts us in the mix from there you just need the right match ups and a little luck.

 

I can see why Dwight would much prefer Houston over the aging Lakers.

Without knowing much of the CBA rules, I figure it is likely Lakers are invovled in a sign trade if Howard wants a max contract for max years kind of deal. So more likely Asik ends up a Laker?

 

I don't know that LA will want a 14 mill cap hit in a couple years, when they are trying to rebuild (and yes, that's what they will be doing if Dwight leaves).

 

IIRC he can simply sign what HOU can offer ($80+m) -- factor in state taxes he wont be losing much from the LAL max offer.

 

I was thinking something as simplistic as Sign Howard and trade him to Houston for Asik and a package of draft picks/expiring contracts. Possible?

Harden or (Whoever will replace Kobe)
Parsons or (Whatever happens with MWP)

Dwight vs Dwight

You tell me which lineup is better. Also, D'Antoni system doesn't cater to Dwights style of play. Everyone knew it. And once Dwight got healthy, they did come from out of the playoff race to the 7th seed, and he was surrounded by not the most talented team at that juncture.

Surround Dwight with shooters, is a proven recipe for success. Harden, Lin, Parsons are much better than anything the Lakers have to offer. And Dwight is significantly better than Asik.. Oh and look who coaches the Houston Rockets... an elite big man. Hmm.

 

Howard holds the cards in this situation for sure and at worst can always take an 80+M deal (hell of a "worst"). But maybe with a good and aggressive agent, he gets that 5th year and a little more per year if he can swing some kind of sign and trade.

 

Don't think Houston has the expiring contracts to do that, and don't think LA would want to add onto the cap for their big "LeBron 2014" sweepstakes. Also, I don't know how Houston would feel having to give up multiple prospects to land dwight. I think they'd rather just outright sign him.

 

What are the odds that LA tanks it for a year, ends up with Wiggins and enough cap space to add a super star to go along with Kobe for one last run. I kid you not that some Lakers fans are convinced it will happen. And quite frankly, I would not be surprised if it did.

 

I think it will be hard to be worse than a few teams out there. And not so sure how Nash, Gasol would feel about that.

 

Well if they intend to tank they may not even be on the team. So I guess they would not care.

 

If Houston has to offload players to be able to clear capspace to sign Howard, then I think LA will let them do that first. They're unlikely to HELP Houston clear the capspace.

The Magic number for Dwight is just over $20.5 million in year one of his new contract....so Rockets need close to 4 million freed up.
