    Nobody drinks alcohol when they don't like the taste without peer pressure being involved unless you have an alcohol problem.

    False. I enjoy some now, but I didn't years ago. I drank because I liked the feeling, but I never got carried away with drinking. I did not then, and do not now, have a drinking problem.

    I started drinking coffee for its eye-opener quality. It was bitter and I put a bunch of cream and sugar in it and it tasted really good.

    Over time, I was drinking a few cups a day so I got lazy and started drinking it black. It still has a slight bitter taste, but I actually like it. I often brew flavored coffee, like Vanilla or Hazelnut, which doesn't need any sweetener and tastes good too.

    I was looking to buy a new espresso machine for home, any suggestions? The one I have been looking at is Saeco Aroma - Espresso Machine but it costs $300, which is actually pretty reasonable for a quality machine, but just about taps out my budget.

    are you totally against Nespresso? It costs more and isn't as good..but you'll actually use it everyday instead of letting it collect dust.


    Also, anyone use scales to brew? might do it to control more of the process...not sure.

    I use one everyday. For a normal 8 cup french press, I use 56 grams. For 8 cups in my bodum coffee maker, I use 60 grams (more since the french press makes less liquid due to the beans taking up some space). Its actually fast than scooping out the beans in my opinion. I grind immediately before brewing, so I just put one of my mugs that I'm going to use on the scale, pour in the right amount, grind and brew.

    And I have whatever espresso machine Starbucks was selling 4 or 5 years ago. My father in law got it for us. I've used it maybe 10 times.

    I've been using our coffee maker a lot lately. In theory it's more like a pour over, rather than traditional drip. It is expensive, given it has no features other than brew.

    For the French Press, we used to just use a kettle, but my wife's aunt bought use a hot water pot (Asians on here should know what I mean), when we went to visit her in Japan last summer. The thing is money. Hot water, set at 80, 90, 95 or 98 degrees anytime we want. Its similar to this one, except only 3 liters and everything is in Japanese. We've been drinking tea more often, so its great for that too.

    I've always hated coffee makers....seeing that I only brew a cup at a time and the cleanup is simple, I just Aeropress everything. I'll keep an eye on that bodum but honestly I don't have counterspace for it. I do like the aesthetics of it though.



    Yeah, I've actually been looking at Zojirushi's for several years....but just been using a kettle and then taking it away from the heat before it starts boiling.

    What grinder are you using?
