Dude's working. Obama is his boss. Bi-weekly updates on the healthcare act which is being run by the IRS. Seems normal. Alarming that Bush NEVER met with his agency head except once.
At this point, anything Bush has, or has not, done is inconsequential as compared to Obama's administration.
It turns out it was 157 times. It sure would be interesting to know what Mr. Shulman--in a non-partisan position (he's a Democrat appointed by a Republican)--was doing at the White House so often.
I think it's clear. Obama told him "I'm afraid of the tea party. Please do everything to stop their great cause. Hurt their completely legal tax exempt charity status."
I attribute it to Obama wanting to tax (collect) and spend. He was there for Obama to tell him to ratchet up collections. Probably to talk about implementing ObamaCare.
You're awfully cavalier about this scandal. Imagine if this were George W. Bush and 100s of liberal groups were discriminated against. Furthermore, imagine if his predecessor had the IRS commissioner to the White House once in four years and GWB had his 157 times. You would be spitting blood. For the record, I'd be equally as pissed, because I'm smart enough to understand that what could be done against organizations with which I disagree can be done to organizations with which I agree. Are you cool with the IRS discriminating? Wait until they manage healthcare. Oops, sorry, no new hip for your mom--she's a Progressive. We're going to require more proof that she really needs it. I'm not happy about having a Progressive Administration, any more than you were happy with Bush's Compassionate Conservative Administration. I think what we can agree upon, however, is that regardless of the political view of the government, the IRS should be strictly non-partisan.
Then wouldn't Kathleen Sebelius or someone else from HHS also have visited as often? Yet they didn't. Not even close. I don't know why he was there so often, but I do think we deserve an answer. This isn't national security stuff where we need some things to remain secret. This is the tax collection arm of the Federal Government. It is the only agency where you are guilty until proven innocent. It is the only agency that requires you to testify against yourself. Given it's vast power, it needs to be completely transparent.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/...use-visits_n_3366834.html?utm_hp_ref=politics The problem with this assertion, and the touting of Shulman's visits to the White House based on the publicly available visitor logs, is that it lacks context and relies on cursory reading of the logs. In fact, according to visitor logs, Shulman only visited the White House -- the physical building -- 39 times when Obama was in office. The vast majority of Shulman's visits listed in the visitor logs, 115 of them, are for meetings at the Old Executive Office Building, adjacent to the West Wing, which houses offices for White House staff. And who was Shulman visiting? The officials Shulman met with the most were Sarah Fenn -- 54 visits -- and Nancy Ann DeParle -- 40 visits. DeParle and Fenn were in charge of implementing the Affordable Care Act and Shulman's IRS had just been given broad new authority under the new health care law. Ten of Shulman's visits with DeParle took place at the White House, making up a quarter of his total White House visits. DeParle was Shulman's most visited official at the White House followed by Deputy Director of the National Economic Council Jason Furman. Furman's research includes extensive work on both taxes and health care. He also wrote blog posts and did interviews defending the health care reform law. Shulman met with Furman nine times at the White House.
Seems very circumstantial, with plenty of readily available excuses. I just don't see this as a big scandal and I haven't seen any "evidence" that isn't based on the hopes and dreams of the republican party. I'm glad someone is looking into it, just in case, but its starting to border on the ridiculous. This along with the 30 odd hearings to overturn Obamacare, and the the months of Benghazi hearings, just seem like a bunch of politically motivated witch hunts to hurt the Democratic party for the next series of elections. From Obama's perspective what would he really have to gain in doing this? It wouldn't have effected the elections, it would be purely a vindictive move on his part meant to punish a small group of opposition political extremists that bare no real threat to him anyway. Nothing for him to really gain and a lot for him to lose when he was found out. I don't see the motive here. If all you scandal hunters want something the rest of us can get behind, why not blast Obama for not prosecuting ANYONE from the financial industry that raped and pillaged our country a few years ago and continue to do so? Im on board with that one, and Ill add Bush to the people who should be investigate along with Obama. There is no republican outcry on this because it was truly a bipartisan disaster and continues to be so.
