<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Despite Missing Final, Gasol Named World Championships MVP 4th September, 2006 - 5:40 am Memphis Commercial Appeal - Despite not playing in the final, Grizzlies star Pau Gasol was named the MVP of the World Championships as his Spain team took home the gold. Gasol led Spain in scoring and rebounding throughout the tournament. When the 7-footer broke his foot with about a minute left in the 75-74 semifinal win over Argentina, his team's gold-medal hopes dimmed considerably.</div> http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...mpionships_mvp/ :beerchug: :happy0144:
He shot 65 percent from the field, for the entire tournament He deserves it. He was 3rd most in ppg behind Yao and Dirk, but the German and Chinese team didn't really amount to much, so he deserves it for anchoring the gold medal Spanish team.
Gasol had a good tournament I have to to admit. But what about Garbajosa who had twenty points in the finals. He even made the all-tournament team.
I saw that in the Toronto Star today. Amazing tournament and looks like a thumbs up addition for the raptors.GO COLANGELO
i think its a bit silly getting it if he didn't play in the final! But he did have a great tournament, so i cant argue too much!

Also, MVP is for the tourny, not one game. Compare Garbajosa's 12 ppg on 33% shooting to Gasol's 21 ppg on 65% shooting, and it is a landslide that Gasol was the best player on the team.
When did I ever say that Garbajosa should be the MVP. I just meant that he had a very good gold medal game replacing Pau Gasol. My Candidates for tournament MVP:1.Vassilis Spanoulis (also could have won it)2.Pau Gasol (good decision on picking him)3.Carmelo Anthony (only consistent USA player)
I think the all-tournament teams didn't give credit to guys who didn't make, say, the semi-finals. Not even Dirk or Yao got on it.
