To get McCollum we're going to have to trade up ahead of Minnesota and Detroit.

To get Len we're going to have to trade way up into the top-5.

I don't mind drafting McCollum as long as were drafting him as a backup. He's too small to be a shooting guard, he's more of a combo guard.

Scoring off the bench. Plus I think he would finish about half the games.

because his defense is so much better than Matthews? Off the bench yes, replacing Matthews at the end of games doubtful.

    On offense, going with

    PG - Lillard
    SG - McCollum
    SF - Matthews
    PF - Batum
    C- Aldridge

...could prove beneficial. I don't know enough about this guy but it seems like he could be the next Lillard-type contributor of the next draft.

I said half the games. There are plenty of teams whose SG is not going to be the other team's go to guy down the stretch. If they want to go away from their star player in crunch time so they can post up a smaller SG .....fine. I would take that trade off.

Plus the whole offense/defense rotation at the end of games.....plenty of opportunities to go small.

While I think Pope and Muhammad CAN be good players, I feel rather uncomfortable with drafting a shooting guard who can't put the ball on the floor. McCollum COULD be the next Lillard like impact player and he is ready to play now. His story is rather similar to Damian's. Our timeline I imagine has moved up, so getting a player who can contribute now has to be of importance to a certain extent. I also like Len, Zeller, and Oladipo. Any of these four players would be my preference. Obviously Len and Oladipo are looking like like they will be drafted much sooner than 10.

Buzz around NBA that Nerlens Noel's ACL may be of greater concern than initially thought. But still no confirmation from NBA doctors.

    Sam Amico ‏@SamAmicoFSO 1h
One source predicts that if Noel's knee is red-flagged by NBA doctors, he could slide to 6th in draft, perhaps lower.

    Sam Amico ‏@SamAmicoFSO 1h
NBA doctors have already examined Noel. Individual teams will also have own medical people examine him when he's brought in for interviews.

Nightmare scenario: Noel falls so hard he is still available at #10. Do you pull the trigger?

No chance he falls that fall. A team would trade up to 7 or so and take him if he started falling that much.

Let's have the doctors that didn't like Darius Miles' knees examine him, and not the doctors that were okay with Oden's.

I think you underestimate the lemming mentality. Once a guy starts slipping, GMs seem to panic and he slides a good long way. At that point they tend to have fallen in love with a guy they knew they had a good chance at and don't want to take a risk that the other teams really know something they don't. Not saying this will happen to Noel, but I think if he fell out of the top three he could fall a ways. People will suddenly start caring that he weighs less than most SGs but has no offensive skills.

I think it depends on who else is there. If he slips then someone else moves up. Was the person we wanted the one who moved up? I think at that point then you have to gamble. Take him and turn off the television and the computers for a while.

GMs picking higher in the lottery are more prone to this. Their draft picks may determine whether they have a job or not so they play it safe, plus they're usually just flat out not as good at their jobs as guys who run better teams. Once those talented guys slip then the Boston, San Antonio, etc. kinda teams get them at a good value and we all call them geniuses.

Happened with Paul Pierce, a blue chip prospect expected to go very early and slid all the way to........

    wait for it........

    #10.

It was a funny draft though.

Lots of solid NBA talent to be found in the lottery.

But, no consensus #1, and the GM's were all over the map on who they liked. Kinda like this draft.

The two best players out of that draft were picked #9 and #10.

A rundown of the players picked in the lottery of the 1998 Draft:

    PickTeamPlayerSchool/Country

    1 LAC Michael Olowokandi Pacific
    2 VAN Mike Bibby Arizona
    3 DEN Raef LaFrentz Kansas
4 TOR Antawn Jamison North Carolina
5 GSW Vince Carter North Carolina
    6 DAL Robert Traylor Michigan
    7 SAC Jason Williams Florida
8 PHI Larry Hughes St. Louis
    9 MIL Dirk Nowitzki Germany
    10 BOS Paul Pierce Kansas
11 DET Bonzi Wells Ball State
    12 ORL Michael Doleac Utah
    13 ORL Keon Clark UNLV
