    1.) On draft day...

    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=czkpbwn

    Trade with Phoenix
Suns trade their first rounder + Gortat = Matthews + Leonard

Use the pick to draft Len

2.) Use our #10 pick to sign a SG or give to Charlotte so we keep our pick for the following summer.

3.) Retain Hickson and Maynor = 10 mil in cap hold. Eventually resign them (Hickson @ 6 mil) and (Maynor @ 2.5 mil) = 8.5 mil

4.) The 3.5 mil left over is used to sign Korver.

Premise breaks down right here. Suns want less salary, not more. You're giving us the best player in this deal (Gortat), with the shortest contract, and the best asset (the #5 pick). There is absolutely no way this deal would ever happen.

I didn't see the first rounder coming from Phoenix.

Ya, They hang up and wonder why Neal Olshey thinks David Kahn took over in Phoenix.

And there's no way he signs here if LMA is still on the team. He also wants to start.

If you could get that trade to work I would gladly have you as GM.

As others have said, in order to get this deal to work you have to accept mediocre contracts for cap space, i.e. you have to take Frye and Beasley. If you're shipping out Wes, and you don't have much cap space left, you need to draft a starting 2 guard - Oladipo.

p.s. I had a thread about this very thing.

Well you got off to a great start upgrading our C position without sacrificing our draft pick OR cap space. But then you used our entire much-ballyhooed cap space on... Maynor, Hickson, and Korver? Blech.

Also, can we really force our 2013 pick on Charlotte like that?

I'd love to hire you then. If you can manage to get Oladipo/Gortat for Leonard/Wes. Sounds like a steal to me.

I don't know why fans still think Hickson is going to resign with the Blazers.

I, on the other hand, am still trying to figure out why they'd want him to

He would be a solid back-up if the price is right. I think a 6 mil back-up that has a 21 PER and +10 rebounds per in less than 26 minutes is a solid bench. If we had a starting center, Hickson would still get that 25-28 minutes per game. He would be able to still get those +10 rebounds and give at least 9 points per game. He is also a good insurance if one of the starters Aldridge or the center gets injured.

Why a tem might want an energy player who can play a couple of positions coming off the bench?

Why a team would want a player that doesn't make the team better.

The study I posted a week or so ago, shows signing someone like JJ is stupid. Take that money and give it to a crappy offensive player that can play good defense instead.
