Former Butler center Andrew Smith called Friday “a special day.”

The Zionsville native was among six prospects who worked out for the Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Joining the 6-10 Smith were Tim Hardaway Jr. (Michigan), Tony Mitchell (North Texas), Chris Babb (Iowa State), Solomon Hill (Arizona) and Axel Toupane (Strasbourg, France).

“I’ve lived here for 22 years, grew up watching the Pacers,” Smith said, “and I’ve have been here (at the arena) hundreds of times.”

Smith averaged 11.3 points and 6.1 rebounds as a senior at Butler. The workout with the Pacers was Smith’s second with an NBA team. He worked out for the Bulls on Thursday.

Smith is using his Butler connections while preparing for the draft. He’s been working out at St. Vincent Sports Performance with former Bulldog Gordon Hayward. He consults with former Bulldog Matt Howard. Butler coach Brad Stevens is helping, too.
