I'm a fan of the C.J. McCollum pick. I think ya'll not only got the BPA but got a decent backcourt fit with Lillard. However, I want to put some of ya'll on the record for who you would have picked over McCollum, given who was available at the time - 10) C.J. McCollum 11) Michael Carter-Williams 12) Steven Adams 13) Kelly Olynyk 14) Shabazz Muhammad 17) Dennis Schroeder 21) Gorgui Dieng Other
Out of all those, Shabazz probably has the most potential, but not at #10. While I'm skeptical of McCollum working in the long run, he was definitely the BPA and that's usually the best course of action.
I think he was BPA and best fit and its not even close. No other SG on the table is close to as good of a shooter and none of the centers we could have drafted have higher potential then Leonard and the only one who you know could have come in and made a defensive impact off the bat (Dieng) had been red flagged by a few teams because of his knees. The only player I think there could be a good argument about is Shabazz and its a decent argument. Shabazz probably has a higher ceiling and an amazing work ethic but the ?? that come with him outweigh the positives at the #10. At worst McCollum is going to be able to stroke it from deep and if there is something a team can never have to many players of, its 3 point shooters.
Yeah, Bazz is certainly intriguing, but those question marks make him too big a gamble at 10. I think Minny got a good value on him.
Schroeder is the only guy on that list that gives me even a moment's pause. I like Dieng's chances to have a solid NBA career - but not better than McCollum.
in todays guard friendly NBA, CJ was the best call. The only other guy who can fill it up was Kelly Olynyk, but he is not a 5, we dont need a stick thin 4 , and I think he is too slow to play the three...so, yeah, CJ
