The Suns waived center Hamed Haddadi, opting to pay him $200,000 rather than guarantee a $1.4 million salary if they did not act Saturday.

They also had a midday deadline decision for Shannon Brown but the Suns want to keep Brown at a guaranteed $3.5 million for next season. Had they waived Brown this morning, the shooting guard would have been owed $1.75 million. The Suns are trying to become more athletic and replacing Brown would have cost them in that category and nearly as much in the payroll, with a replacement needing at least a minimum contract.

Brown had been unhappy with being benched after this year’s All-Star break by interim coach Lindsey Hunter and made inferences of being misled by management. Once Ryan McDonough was named general manager and Jeff Hornacek was named coach, Brown was seen working out at US Airways Center.
