Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes 20m #Blazers have interest in free agent C Andrew Bynum, reports @YannisHW. What you think about that? Fuck YES. Go big or go home. If it works we expedite our rebuild. If it fails we probably get a high pick in loaded 2014 draft
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum I posted the following in another thread, but this topic does deserve a thread of it's own: YES on Bynum!!! I don't want to overpay for mediocrity. Our team, in our situation and in our city, needs to roll the dice to become a contender. I could care less if we compete for the playoffs with a Pek or a Splitter. You are going to have to overpay them and who knows if Aldridge sticks around. Give Bynum a contract guaranteed for the next 2 years.....maybe with a team option after that. If he holds up, we just may compete for it all. That scenario would also allow us to keep Aldridge. If he doesn't hold up, we can shed his salary in a couple years and move Aldridge if need be and blow it up. It's risky, but I care about titles, not one-and-done's. At least this gives us a chance. Bynum was the 2012 All-Star starter. He's got the talent. And maybe...just maybe, we are due some better luck with injuries.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum IF we can structure a contract like I think Roy had with Minny, where it's short and has "knee" related exit clauses then we could take a flier I guess, not really very excited about it frankly
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum Have read terrible things about his knees, but depending on the protection you get on his deal, I'm all for it. I thought heading into the offseason, we needed a starting C, and a 6th man scorer. I think landing McCollum in the draft made it so we didn't need to spend that money at that position come free agency, which makes it a much better pick than another project C like Adams would have been. If you throw most your money at Bynum, and still look at minimum signings or trdaes to fill other spots, I'd be happy with the offseason. Lillard/McCollum Wes/McColum/Barton/Crabbe Batum/Claver Aldridge/Claver Bynum/Leonard/Withey get a vet 3rd string PG and PF.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum I hate the dude, but I am not opposed to trying. I am not willing to give up too much in a trade to create more cap room for him though. He does not deserve much more than 10-11 million. Of course he will want much more.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum All depends on Bynum's deal, but I doubt it. Am assuming he'd be eating up the majority of our cap space, or very close to it. Leaving us with the 2.6 room exception. Landry, at least, is bound to get more than that. Unless we worked a S&T with GS. But, if they can't afford Landry, doubt they pay the same for JJ or someone.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum Chris Haynes @ChrisBHaynes 12s #Blazers fans you can relax. GM Neil Olshey isn't interested/pursuing Andrew Bynum, according to well-placed source. Not going there! boo
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum Some might relax but some think we have to take a risk to get out of the 1st round of the playoffs. I think we need to take a risk.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum I would probably say yes; but it's a good move IMO. We still have a ton of tradable assets if bynum's injured; we can do the proper rebuild and play for the wiggins sweepstakes
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum I think someone like Pek can get you to the 1st round of the playoffs, but out of it? I know we all wear rose-colored glasses but come on guys. We need major luck (like not paying max on a guy who can contribute max - if healthy. Of course big if) to do that.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum I'd be okay with this if (a) I could be reassured that he wasn't the colossal asshole he has always appeared to be (b) we could hire him on a series of ten-day contracts.
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum "a ton of tradeable assets"? didn't neil just say a few days ago we were bit short on the asset side of the ledger? Hopefully this last draft and some solid FA signings will greatly improve that - I think that is part of the plan, taking a flier on Bynum would set back that plan significantly if it failed which I believe would be likely use your brains and common sense here Mags not the emotions!
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum lol. good luck with that, he is an ahole and the 10-days gave me a chuckle
Re: Blazers interested in Bynum I hope Neil listens to his new medical/training staff on Bynum. If he could be healthy, I'd say fuck yeah. But I doubt he's worth the risk. I suspect Neil has a specific player he's been focused on, and it isn't Bynum. Stay tuned.
