Rip Hamilton will soon be a free agent as the Bulls will waive him rather than guarantee his $5 million salary for next season, source says. https://twitter.com/KBergCBS/status/352161270717366272
Do you remember that pre-season game against Indianapolis? It was like the only time during his entire tenure with the Bulls that he was healthy. I really thought after that game that he was the final piece the Bulls needed to win a championship. Yeah, not so much.
In retrospect, a healthy Rip wasn't enough, IMO. Don't forget that the Heat figured us out after one game and then swept us. I don't think those games were that close. They basically trapped Rose at half court and we had no other guy to run the offense 4 on the-remaining-3. I mean, Rip could have got himself open running off some number of screens, but the pass from Rose at half court through the double or triple teams would have been really tough. On the other hand, he was a massive improvement over Bogans at SG.
It probably won't happen, but I would really have liked to see what a Derrick / Nate guard tandem could have done down the stretch against a heat team that tried to aggressively double team Derrick like they did a couple years ago. The Bulls sorely need another shot creator, not just a guy that can hit spot up threes (or mid range jumpers in Rip's case).
Don't worry, next season when they trap Rose at halfcourt, Hinrich will be there to take the fight to the opponent.
If he doesn't have his leg in a boot from the turf toe injury. Seriously. People bagged on Rose for not playing, but Hinrich missed the biggest games of the season.
