For half a season. Not willing to pay Iggy $14 million a year for 4 years for half a season of good production. He is already declining and will continue to do so, while his salary continues to increase. No thanks!!! BNM
I think they like that he's a free agent because George is up for extension, and with him, Hibbert, West, they can use the savings. Think they think pretty highly of Lance Stephenson as well, who is a lot cheaper than Wes. I don't see it with Granger. He's a scorer who needs the ball in his hands more to be effective. He doesn't do a whole lot more than Rudy Gay does for a team, really. With a USG% as high as his is, in the 25-28 range when he was a big time scorer, I would sure like to see more than 3 assists per game, but he never even got that. When you have Aldridge and Lillard on your team, you don't want #3 being a guy like Granger, IMO. I don't think offense was our issue last season. Offense from our bench certainly was. But we got 14 a night from Wes and Batum. If McCollum can be a true 6th man, and alleviate the necessity for 2 of our starters to always be the primary scorer, it'll go a long way.
And if were picking 6th in the draft next year, I guarantee you Aldridge is gone and we are in complete rebuild mode. No thanks. I want to see the playoffs for the next 10 years, not the lottery for 5 more. BNM
How you figure? We would have the same team, make the playoffs and trade Iggy for #6 in a deep draft? That's not bad brother!
The whole thing hinges on price. He'd be a great fit here as far as game. You'd see his offense open up compared to last year when surrounded by shooters here (Denver has no consistent deep threats), and he'd the ball in his hands more as compared with playing with Lawson and Dre Miller. His decline will not be as steep as Wallace's because he is such a better passer/moving w/o the ball, etc. And his defense is more about positioning than bodying guys up. With that said, I think if you can get him for like 4 years, 40 million or 3 years 36 it's very much worth it. But anything above that range does not seem worth it to me, as you're just committing too much. The problem is, no one knows how much anyone else can offer. I would that that we'd be a more attractive option to him than Sacramento or Detroit. So I guess would he rather play with Curry and the crew in GS, return to Denver, Dallas w/Dirk, or PDX with Lamarcus, and how much of a discount does he take compared to Sacramento or Detroit? I don't see anyone else offering that 54 mill deal, I think he's probably stuck around 45 mill from here on out.
He isn't getting that kind of money again. Sacto offered that contract and I doubt anyone else will offer near the same. I would take him on at 11/y for 4 years, he is still right up there with Lebron James and Tony Allen as one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. He doesn't crash around the same as Wallace so his body isn't going to break down as quickly. Just gotta use him correctly because like Wallace his 3% isnt great so standing in the corner waiting for 3's is something you don't have him do(which is something I yelled at my TV all the time about with Wallace, McMillian didn't know how to use a wing who doesn't just stand in a corner and bomb 3s).
Denver also had nothing in the way of post options, however. Why would he have/why would we want him to have, the ball in his hands more here? I want Lillard and Aldridge getting touches first, so he'd have a similar issue of Lawson-Lillard.
He can allow Lillard to play off the ball and is great at the entry pass into the post as well as general facilitation. We wouldn't sign him to be a primary ball handler, he is great off the ball as well, but having teammates that can create for others is never a bad thing.
But having over-the-hill, grossly overpaid players on long term contracts is. Do you really want a 34-year old Andre Iguodala making $14 million? Yeah, I know at that point he becomes an expiring contract, but what good has that done us in the past (RLEC)? BNM
Like it or not, we have no true distributors on the team right now. Which means, that we have to get some players at other positions who are great passers for their position. This doesn't mean he should be running point forward, it simply means that he should be taking pressure off of Lillard. And it's not like he crosses people over and runs around on the perimeter jacking threes, when Iggy drives good things happen. He just didn't happen to have many open lanes last year because everyone sagged so much off of Denver's players.
Pretty much this. When your signing a player thats 29-30 to a big contract there is always the possibility that they will fall off at the end of that contract which is why they are usually signings that will help now rather then later.
I don't see the Blazers going in the direction of Iggy. It doesn't seem consistent with what Olshey's been doing.
I agree we always need better passers. At every position. But when we go with Dame, CJ , and Batum we will have three guys who can pass, dribble, and shoot on the floor at the same time. Whether you think it is too small or not is a different argument. But I think the offense will flow pretty well.
The one thing that is really appealing to me about Granger is having a good chunk of money in next year's free agency. I'm not saying we could get LeBron but it would open a lot of opportunities especially especially if we do decide to move LMA
IMHO, if the Blazers could add a player like Corey Brewer as a defensive wing, who can stroke the 3 as well, we would be set
