The 4th line mix would be Dorsett/Moore/Boyle/Pyatt. That is a solid 4th line mix. One of the better 4th lines in the league IMO. Deals like Pyatt I just don't sweat. First he only has 1 year left at a decent cap hit of 1.55. Second he can be dealt with that decent contract. Third we can send him down and save 925 K of his cap hit, if he even clears waivers. So I don't get too worked up over that kind of deal. If we add Moore I would bury Pyatt in the minors/hope someone claims him off waivers though.

My plan since the second the season ended was add another scoring winger and let's roll. To me I am now liking the idea of those 7 guys on D, deep and solid IMO. So I think you bury Powe and Asham in the minors (saves you 1.850 mill). You deal or bury Pyatt in the minors, saving at least another 925 K, if not his whole deal if he is claimed. Then you take that money and sign Moore for around 1 mill, and sign a FA forward that can play in the top 9 for about 2 mill or so per.

Then you say done have a nice day and start the season...:).

A $2M player is in no way going to be the type of forward who can be a difference maker. Think about it, Boyle costs $1.7M and is a 4th liner. For $300K more you're not getting anything of impact, which we really need.

Having Moore on the 4th line was not the reason we've sucked at scoring in the playoffs the past 2yrs and been middle of the pack, at best, during the regular season.

Dump, will be very disappointing if the undertaker doesn't make the big club at the start this season. We need Mcilreith to be ready even as 3rd pairing to keep other teams honest as we don't have the heavyweight presence to keep clowns like lucic and AO from running guys like nash. Dorsett is willing but more middleweight. What do you guys think we can get from vancouver offensewise for torts favorites like boyle and piatt?

I agree, but you and I also differ on us needing a real impact guy. I just think we need a solid top 9 winger. We agree to disgaree on that.

I think the reason we haven't scored in the playoffs, or regular season for that matter, the past few seasons is deeper than talent. We'll see, maybe I will be wrong on that.

I like the idea of having a good deep team with a few stars. Hank is a star. Nash is a star. Step is becoming a star. McD is becoming a star. Staal and Girardi are near that level. Cally is darn close to a star.

So I am okay with adding just a solid vet guy who can score some goals. And combining that with a new coach/system, and Kreider hopefully taking a step up to a 20 goal guy.

I think that can get us where we need to go. I truly do when combined with our D and goalie. But I do think we need another top 9 winger. I think as is we are a little short when you factor in no Hags/Cally for the start, and the uncertain contributions of guys like Miller/Lindberg/Fast.

From what I have read, be ready to get let down. Unless he is lights out in camp, McIlrath will start in Hartford. And if he plays well I am sure he will be called up at some point, but they almost consider this past season a wash due to his injury, so he will start in Hartford. They want him to get some good AHL time in before he is up with the big club. But I do think this is the first season we will actually see him in a Ranger uniform. I never felt that way in any prior season.

Darren Dreger tweets that he wouldnt be surprised to see Clowe land a 5 year deal. If that happens then I won't whine about losing him anymore, no wayyyy you can sign a guy like him with his concussion history to 5 years

So if they sign a Moore/Lapierre this effectively means the end of Boyle no? There wouldn't be any need for him(is there now?). I'd skip Moore and just go with Lindberg who's close to ready. Save the $ and use it on a Raymond or Stalberg. Then waive/deal Boyle/Pyatt.

i disliked Torts and saw him as very overrated for years, but to solely blame him for lack of scoring is absurd. I'm not saying blame the players 100% like Al used to say, but Nash had no problem scoring at a 40gl pace this year under Torts, and Gaborik had no problem scoring 40 under him either. Yes, the system sucked for the most part, but the talent level to beat the top teams just isn't there.

I'm with you 31, adding a Moore is nice to round out the 4th line but we aren't over the hump unless we get another legitimate 25+ goal scorer to play a top 6 winger spot.

RE: Kane..That could affect something like that true, I guess it depends on which move they made first. Hopefully they're even looking into that. I read somewhere last week they were one of a few that had inquired recently. We can only hope! :)

I certainly do not solely blame him for the lack of scoing 31. No way at all. Like I said, it is deeper than just talent IMO. It was a few things. Not all on Torts...no way.

Anyway, we don't agree on this. All good. I think we need another decent scorer added, and away we go. I believe in good depth and a few stars. You want another impact player added. I don't think we need that. All good.

I also don't get hung up on deals like Powe, Asham, Pyatt, and Boyle. Small deals. All one year left. The Rangers can deal them, put them on waivers (as they did with Powe and Asham already), and send them to the minors saving 925 K per on cap hits. So I am not too concerned about those guys. If we wanted them out I am sure they will be out. They won't hurt us from trying to improve IMO.

We are not getting Kane. I haven't seen anywhere that he is on the market OR we are even looking at him.

My guess is we will look to make some minor moves. Add a Moore. Get rid of a Pyatt or Boyle type. Add a top 9 winger for a decent #. That would be my guess on what we try to do.

I still think Ryan is feasible if the reports were true about how hard the Ducks were shopping him at the draft but I've beaten that horse to death long ago
