Not good.

Too many teams that we were in the middle of the pack with are getting better.

Offseason is far from over, but we have catching up to do.

Since there is no cap room for a significant player to be added we'll need to address it via trade.

Still some decent values out there, Raymond/Kobasew/Brunner/Boyes

Where we stand is in very good shape. What you are seeing is teams that suck at drafting over spending for average players. The Rangers don't need to do that because they have 5 or 6 young players they want to have spots for.

We'll see dump. I 1000000000% agree we see a lot of bad signings today. No doubt. But that also doesn't mean that in the short term these teams won't get better due to these signings. Down the road I think it will bite them. The next year or two they work and improve the teams.

Yeah I don't want any part of any of these deals.....Just thank god Sather doesn't have the cap space. I agree teams are better in the short term but you simply cannot give out contracts like this.

Weiss got 5/25

LMAO

The one plus side to no cap space...no bad deals like we usually sign...LOL.

This is where Sather fails and is his biggest issue, knowing which lower grade signings to make on the 1st day or two of FA. It's like he's a deer in the headlights until there's nothing but crap left.

Who would you want him to sign today based on the deals out there? Stahlberg 4/12?

The best contracts today are probably Stahlberg ($3m), Ribeiro ($5m and he is 35) and Weiss ($5m)

They are all too much IMO

That doesn't even mention the ridiculous contracts

Clowe for 5 mill per doesn't excite you dis...:).

We all liked Clowe in here, but the dude had as many concussions as goals last season. 3 years and 3.5 or so was fair. That deal with NJ is nutso IMO.

I think that is an accurate assessment of the situation. I think the amount of money thrown at Clowe suggests the difficulty Lou Lamoriello is having (and frankly has had) in getting people to commit to coming to New Jersey.

I have been accused of a Devils hater from ESPN boards but that is a ridiculous contract and I love Clowe's game

They should have just paid Clarkson what Toronto paid him, its the Clowe contract + 2 years and Clarkson is a lot healthier and isn't as slow

And everyone knows it also. That is the only deal I have really seen the "experts" openly saying WTF was Lou thinking. That is by far the worst deal of the day.

Maybe it was the case, but I cannot see how some other team was really ready to pay that much for Clowe. But maybe there was another team that forced Lou's hand. Who knows.

In some ways I am not that surprised...Nobody really wants to play there except Marty unless its for more $$$. The next impact free agent they resign from their own team will their first
