Doesn't work for me either. And if that's what did happen.....good lord, that's terrible management! Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water. I think the most likely answer is there were internal riffs between Adams and management about personnel decisions, like it's been reported. Of course how deep those riffs got, and the size of their spillover effects is something that hasn't been reported. If he voiced his displeasure internally and Gar fired him in an act of dick-swinging........meh. If the situation was more toxic and this was the only way to quarantine the discontent......well, I'm a little more appeased. Hard to say at this point.
Adams was fired for insubordination. I presume he said something like "we're not overplaying the players." I in no way blame thibs for not giving Radmanovic more/regular minutes. That's on management that the team was so thin and the bench sucked beyond 3 guys. I agree with transplant that the injuries weren't an issue of playing big minutes. However, a guy like hinrich might have a 50% chance to be injured if he plays just one minute. The injuries are a random event. The Chance Card of the game (if you get the monopoly reference). Was Thibs supposed to not play Noah in the playoffs? Save him for game 5 by limiting his minutes? On the other hand, he's not risk averse in the least. Playing Rose with 2 minutes left in a blowout win seems foolish to me. I don't see what good experience he gains from playing then, and the risk of the chance card is needless.
That's my guess but I suppose this is all speculation. I keep going back to the game February 2, 2012 where an obviously-injured Derrick Rose hobbled around on the court for 22:22 in an absolutely meaningless away game against the Hornets. The Hornets were awful that season and Rose had no business even suiting up. Rose was never healthy the rest of the season, as his health sprialled downhill with compensation injury after compensation injury until he finally tore his ACL in the Philadelphia series. Thibodeau essentially destroyed two contending seasons in that one game -- two contending Derrick Rose in his prime seasons -- because he let him play hurt. And I don't see the clear line you all seem to be drawing between wear and tear injuries and injuries that could occur at any time. Hinrich has a long history of wearing down overseasons. Maybe it wouldn't have made any difference if Thibodeau would have severly limited his minutes during the second half of the season. I think there's a reasonable chance it would have. Same with Noah and his feet and Deng and his wrist.
Jordan averaged 38.3 minutes per game for his career. He averaged over 40 for three straight seasons when he was about Rose's age. He averaged 38.8 minutes per game at age 34 during the last 3-peat season. Wear and tear? Risk injury to the GOAT? Kareem averaged 36.8 for his long career. For his first 7 seasons, he averaged well over 40, and as many as 44.2 in his 3rd season. LeBron has averaged 39.7 for his career. Kobe averaged 38.6 last season. Karl Malone averaged 37.2 for his long career. He played 38 at age 38. Pippen averaged over 38 5 times in his career. He palyed 37.6 at age 32 in that last 3-peat season. Larry Bird averaged 38.4 for his career. He played 38 and 36.9 a game with a really bad back. Kevin Durant played 38.5 this season, and has averaged 38.2. ... So I guess it all boils down to if you think Deng and others playing big minutes are stars like these others. I think that's why Thibs does play them so much.
The Bulls team management seems to be micromanagers over their coaches. Was VDN known for being a hard driving coach that overplayed his players? I don't remember that meme about him. Didn't stop Paxson from trying to control minute distribution from on high and ultimately physically attacking the coach. Same thing is going on with Thibbs. As for the season where they kept bringing Rose back (ACL year), it isn't Thibbs decision when to "green light" a player. I'm not sure if its purely the team doctor or if management can control keeping a player out longer, but I don't think its the head coach. Rose is a slighter player who aggressively attacks the rim over and over and takes horrible shots. Those types of players tend to get hurt. Remember when JVG went off on Bulls management not being serious about winning during one of the national games this year? That was pretty much the voice of THibbs / Adams by my understanding. I'm pretty sure Bulls management heard that too and knew where it come from. Other public and private incidents would be all it takes. Adams got fired due to him and Thibs being mouthy about management. For many of the same things that many fans and the Rose camp complains about. Not being serious about winning by letting guys like Asik and others go. A few years from now when Rose and Thibs have moved on to different teams we fans will all be sorry. But the arena will still be pretty full most likely.
The last several posts are a good example of "if you don't give them the straight scoop, they'll make up their own story." We don't know why Adams was shown the door. Period. Full stop. From there, anything we speculate tends to mirror our own opinions, positive or negative about the individuals involved. I'm not sure why we can't just leave it at "I don't know," but we can't.
I got the insubordination bit from twitter and several other sources. Maybe the last post is defend management no matter what? http://www.chicagonow.com/chicago-b...ower-struggle-with-in-the-bulls-organization/ Apparently, Adams had been complaining about personnel decisions too loudly and was let go. It seems rather odd given that the Bulls have had pretty good personnel recently, but you can understand why an insubordinate employee might get fired, particularly an assistant. Then the plot thickens. Adrian Wojnarowski tweets that Thibodeau and Forman easily have the worst relationship between coach and GM in the NBA. Word comes out that Thibodeau taking his time signing his contract wasn't necessarily due to minor lawyer squabbles but was simply a shot across the bow at management. GarPax are pissed about the minutes Thibs plays the veteran players who keep getting hurt while Thibodeau wants more say in personnel decisions. Oy. At the press conference to announce the new players, reporters were asked not to discuss the Adams firing and to only discuss the rookies as to not spoil their moment. When that conference ended, Forman came back out alone to discuss Adams preaching a "unite and move forward" mantra while the guy he was uniting with was getting the hell out of dodge. Forman's choice of words showed that the fracture certainly existed, you don't unite something that isn't broken.
You like the Trib better http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...-0702-haugh-chicago-20130702,0,4368923.column Though Forman refused to elaborate, a source told the Tribune late Monday night a pattern of insubordinate incidents since the end of the season concerned Bulls officials enough to relieve Adams of his duties. Thibodeau didn't like the decision but had full knowledge it was coming, the source said. "I think with any type of personnel decision, it's best left unsaid as far as why decisions are made," Forman said. "Tom is going to recommend who he wants hired. At the end of the day, I've got final say over personnel, as far as the coaches. In the past, obviously if I felt comfortable with it and Tom wanted a guy, that's the direction we're going to go."
Dan Bernstein was my source for the info that the Adams-Thibodeau-Foreman dispute is over playing minutes and personnel decisions.
