    The Verdict

At $499.99 for the 16GB model, Sony's latest is right in line with the 4th generation iPad, but sports a $100 premium over the Nexus 10. Still, if you're in the market for a full-sized Android tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z is a no-brainer. With its quality, lightweight design and useful software features, Sony has succesfully built an Android tablet that has the chops to even make some iPad owners envious.

I love my iPad. That's not to say anything about the Sony Xperia or other tablets, just that the IPad woks great. The one issue (I have not had it but several others I know have) is the glass breaks too easily. From what I gather, the gorilla glass will be on the next generation of iPads, taking care of that issue. The price is just a tad more, not enough to make a huge difference in the long run, and I tend to find apple apps work better than Android apps.

I have no doubt that Sony, or some other company will produce a better piece of hardware than Apple iPad or iPhone, but the fact that I can always trust Apple to at least be very good, well, that's enough for me. If I was a techie I might buy non-apple, but as a layman who doesn't want to devote too much time to figuring it all out, I know that Apple will always be pretty darn good.

Unfortunately, tablet-optimized apps in the Google Play store are still lacking when compared to iOS. Popular options like Facebook, Twitter, and Yelp are stretched out with lots of unused space, making them unbearable on such a large tablet. While these may be fine on the Nexus 7, they look terrible on something like the Xperia Tablet Z.
