"But you try and find the right match together, the right math. And this was a tricky year with the salary cap going down, and we have other key players to re-sign; but I think both sides worked out a deal that was good and fair to both sides. I have long-term security, and the team still has options and flexibility with the rest of our roster. The whole tone was 'We have a winning atmosphere here and we want Ryan to be a part of it', and I was totally on board with that." To me that sounds like a guy who knows he is worth more than he ended up getting but took slightly less because he wants to be here and wants to see a winning team built around him. The league could use a few more guys like that. Hopefully Hank has a similar attitude going into his negotiations. Well done Ryan. Don't be surprised if he ends up getting Richards' A after next year
Even if HL gets an average of $8m it won't break anything, so they may as well give him all he's worth.
I am not sure if Hank wants to stay here. Why is his contract taking this long? 60M for 8 years sounds very fair. Every day that we do not hear about his extension is making me doubt more and more if he wants to stay here.
Again, what players want to leave the New York Rangers organization? When players leave it's always that Sather either doesn't want them or doesn't want to pay them.
