Interesting. Wonder why Florida is so high. Also, according to this the Pac-12 should really have higher recruiting classes than it does -- and the SEC should have lower. The problem must be in the recruiting process.
I'd guess that the population density around Florida and their winning tradition has a lot to do with it Oregon coaches are always talking about how much they stress character in the kids they recruit. Just another guess, but maybe a good % of the kids that are listing Oregon are attracted to the flashy uniforms etc and aren't the ones that the coaches target. Also factor in that most of the nation's population would require a long plane flight to visit and there are only so many Official Visits available and of course those can't be taken until the fall of a recruiting class's Sr. year. Regardless, it's only a good thing for UO that interest runs high. With the threat of crippling sanctions lifted, maybe we'll see the Ducks recruiting rankings ratchet up a few notches. STOMP

It doesn't surprise me Oregon is high on the list. The marketing machine and football program is on top of the world right now. I know I wouldn't pick Oregon if I had the choice. Why pick Oregon or Florida when you can pick Stanford who has outstanding academics and football?
Probably for the same reason you pick Bama or LSU..... exposure. The Ducks get national attention because of their offense and their uniforms, and recruits want national attention. Nobody drafts the guy they never heard of. Most of these highly recruited players think they're going to the NFL. They don't care if they go to a good school or finish with a degree. How many of them major in communications?
Kids probably weren't being too calculated when they answered this survey question and went with the first thing that popped in their heads. Oregon's uniform glitz, TV exposure & high scoring dominance makes them a lot of kids favorite team to watch on Saturdays. Though they relaxed their entry standards for athletes considerably back in the Harbaugh days, most top prospects still don't have the grades/test scores to make it into Stanford. For those that do, I'd image a Stanford degree would be a pretty big enticement. Whether it's the local school, the track program, professional development or ???, kids with Stanford options do still choose Oregon with recent examples being Evan Voeller, Devon Allen & Royce Freeman. Personally I find the Stanford campus & alumni to be a stale/boring environment where as I absolutely loved Eugene/UO from the first day I visited until today. If I was a top prospect with options, choosing between Oregon & Stanford would be a tough battle between heart and head. Of course going to a school as an athlete is a much different experience academically then going as a normal student. Special facilities, personal tudors, etc close some of the academic advantages of Stanford & of course no other school matches Oregon's athletic facilities/experience Overall those are two great options STOMP

Some people got their jimmy's rustled in that comment section. I've thought for a while that the U of O has been one of the best overall sports universities in the country. We seem to constantly do well in all track and field, baseball, volleyball, football and then the occasional NCAA tourney rally in bball.
