resign Bergeron to an 8/$52 deal. I'm a big Bergeron fan but you cannot sign someone with as many concussions as he's had to an 8yr deal, 9 if you count this upcoming season that's still under his current contract.
So many concussions these days. Only 25-35 years ago (yesterday for me), lots of guys playing without helmets. Is the information from the media just that much more available now, or were many of those old timers playing thru it. There were plenty of guys throwing hard hits back then. (See Bobby Orr.)
I'm going to say they played through it and there are more in todays game because of the speed and size of todays players Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Agreed Al, and the other problem is the ammount of head shots thrown by players against star players with little to no penalty that cause a lot of the concussions. This won't stop until a strong deterrent is in place such as an automatic 10 game suspension.
While I agree the Rask contract was dumb, the Bruins have won a cup and have lost in the finals in 2 out of the last 3 years. That is a heck of a lot better than this organization. My problem with these contracts around the league are that the stupid Flyers started a dumb trend. That trend was giving young players long term, big money contracts when you didn't have to. Sather's contract to McDonagh was under 5 million. It was borderline but I'm OK with it because I think he would have taken an offer sheet from another team. McDonagh was the one guy I could see maybe leaving NY if he didn't get paid right away. Other than that, you don't need to offer these young players 5+ million long term when you have control of them. Rask has barely proved anything in the league. No reason to give him that absurd contract
Seriously, it wasn't that long ago that helmets weren't required. How many players from back than, suffered from concussions compared to today?
Dump, just curious why you saw McDonagh as the one guy who could potentially leave? It is just based on objective numbers, as he's really young and valuable meaning he could almost definitely get a real good contract wherever he wanted? Or did you just get that vibe from him as an individual? Judging by his comments I posted in another thread, he knew he was worth more than he got but wants to be here.
