I agree that a trade that redistributes wealth is the only way (beyond the unknowns of Mirotic and Bobcats pick) of adding quality assets. But as the LMA situation shows, it takes (more than) two to tango when it comes to trades. We have to have what they want, they have to have what we want, what we want has to want to be with us, etc. ... A cosmic aligning of interests is required.
If the Bulls re-up Deng, they will help to ensure that the Chicago Bulls will be a championship contender for the next 4 seasons since extending Deng means that, barring a trade, Rose, Noah, Gibson and Deng will stay together through the 2016-17 season.
Mirotic better be at least as good as Boozer, or we are going to be less of a contender than when we had a bench full of NBA caliber vets and Omer.
Yeah, the Bulls' and their fans are all hoping that Mirotic is the real deal. He doesn't necessarily need to immediately be better than Boozer, but he needs to provide an offensive threat and the Mirotic-Gibson combination needs to be at least as effective as the Boozer-Gibson combo was.
