Two weeks ago tomorrow, I kicked in my sleep and cracked (figuratively, not literally) the top of my foot against the corner of a wall next to my bed. Hard. X-Rays the following Monday morning were negative, but the hemotoma was huge. After a while, it started to look a lot like it was an infection. Had it drained and packed with gauze tape. Much to my relief, there was no pus, just nice, clean, coagulated blood. Wednesday, my doctor pulled the gauze tape out, and as she did there was an intense shocking sensation. Felt like pulsing electric shocks running from the surgical cut to the ends of my third and fourth toe. Hurt worse than the original injury! Anyway, it still hurts like hell even though it's healing nicely. I'm hobbling around like Tim Conway's old man character, and eating Vicodin from a Pez dispenser. My question is, has anyone else hurt themselves or someone else in their sleep somehow?

First, your injury. Depending on the angle of the xray and how a bone splinters, and also depending on the aptitude of the doctor, a hairline fracture can easily be missed. If you still have a deep pain after another week or two, go back and have them look more diligently.

Second - The injury I caused. No, never physically hurt myself or anyone else while sleeping, but I did injure a friend emotionally. About 12 years ago I was traveling with my friend Doug, whose wife I was also close friends with. Doug and I shared a hotel room and in the middle of the night I started sleep-talking. Apparently, I was having sexual dreams involving his wife, and very vocally yelling her name. He accused me and his wife of having an affair and it ruined my relationship with both of them. I never did anything with his wife, and didn't even find her very attractive.

I never hurt myself, but as a child I would roll off my bed due to intense dreams.

    great topic!

i don't know about injuring myself (or someone else), but i've had times when i've woken up with a sore shoulder or knee from sleeping in a strange position (i commonly sleep on my side). this is usually more than the kink in the neck or so forth which comes from time to time. fortunately, it usually lasts only a day or so.
