Silver had some good advice for McCollum. If I were in the position of guys like McCollum, I'd definitely be using my NBA connections to ply my future trade. That shows great foresight on McCollum (or his handlers') part.
I think I remember Greg Anthony being one of those head-is-on-straight type of players when he came into the league. Occurs to me that he studied to be an investor when his playing days were over.
He knows Silver? That explains why the league made him eligible for the draft straight out of Lee High.
I thought Brandon Roy and Lillard were very intelligent, well spoken and articulate as rookies but somehow CJ appears significantly better than both.
Roy and Lillard are gracious and humble, which is rare considering their considerable talents. It is very endearing. CJ is really the intelligent, well spoken, and articulate one.
Big deal. McCollum's a journalism major, so he has been on the interviewing end and knows what reporters want. Besides print journalism, he took on-air journalism, which includes Speech Dept. classes, where he practiced talking fast. Fast talking gives the illusion of being smart.
Athletes have always been majoring in the easiest majors, like "communications," or whatever the particular university's translation of that major is. How many guys actually make something out of their bullshit majors though? I've got to give McCollum credit for actually starting to pursue a career media career with his newfound connections. With that said, I'm surprised more D-1 athletes don't commit to Northwestern. I almost went there to major in journalism, just because of the strength of the Medill School of Journalism (shit... half of ESPN's talking heads graduated from that program). You'd think with all of the great basketball players coming out of the Chicago area, combined with the strength of Medill's ability to churn out sports journalists, that would really give Northwestern a recruiting advantage, yet they've never even been able to make a NCAA Tournament.
And not many Stanford football players are majoring in their most challenging subjects. Hell, my HS classmate played football there, was given a five year scholarship and barely made it out with a sociology major.
