Mark Messier, who was recently passed over for the New York Rangers' coaching job, issued a statement Thursday saying he's leaving the organization.

Messier denied his decision was based on not being hired as the club's coach. He lost out to former Vancouver Canucks coach Alain Vigneault, who was introduced last Friday as John Tortorella's replacement.

"I am resigning my position with the team to pursue an opportunity to expand the game of hockey in the New York area by developing the Kingsbridge National Ice Center," Messier said. "Although some will perceive this as a reaction to the coaching decision, nothing could be further from the truth. I completely respect the decision that was made and for all the reasons it was made. I harbor no hard feelings toward Glen [Sather] or the Rangers. This is a personal choice I am making to create a program in the New York area that will give our children more choices and opportunities in the future. I wish the Rangers nothing but the best in the future."

Depending on how long Sather stays on, I have a feeling Mess will be back
in a much stronger position than head coach.

I hope not. he stepped away from the organization in the same fashion when he left NY to go to Vancouver. He wants everything handed to him, the project he is currently working on has been in the works for some time now so why didnt he leave earlier to devote more time to it?
If New York is smart Jim Schoenfield would be a huge asset as GM because he was a former coach and already has been in the Ranger front office for a number of years. Messier needs to do the leg work and step outside himself and the cups that he has won as a player tp move to the next level.

Are you kidding me? The doughnut man is an A1 jackazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
If this clown has Sather's ear, the Rangers are doomed. It is obvious you and
I will disagree on this boring human being. The man is a shill.......what he does best is kiss azzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Do you know why the Hartford Whale suck big time? Schoenfield was in charge.
Just because he's been in the Ranger organization does not mean he is worthy of any promotion. He just does what the boss wants him to do..........and that ain't much.

He doesnt have Sather's ear As you can see nobody has sathers ear not even Messier which is good. Schoeny has been working for sather for years him being a GM would be better than Tantrum boy messier who doesnt have any front office experience
