it'll be a fight for sure. I def don't see this team, as currently built, being a #1 seed the way it was in 2011-2012.
Nah. This guy is a very good coach. You will see the offense in 3-4 players flourish away from Torts block every shot with your face system.
agreed 31 but I don't see this team as one needing a flourish at the end to make the playoffs. I see us in them comfortably with a defense that will move the puck quickly and not be predictable, a goalie thats still one of the best and forwards that will cover the friggin points on D and attack on offense doing more than just throwing the puck in and watching the other team skate it out. It will be shocking to not see kreider not only a regular member of the power play but flourishing on it. I can't wait for the season to start and also not to have to cringe at every press conference as to what our lunatic coach has to say or not say. In addition, I think slats has a trade to make before the season starts that will also be a plus as his trades usually are
Having one of the best goalies in the league should afford us the opportunity to take more chances offensively, D pinching or joining the rush up ice, but instead we are always cautious and boring as hell to watch. It has gotten us nowhere really. Just hope AV will cut these guys loose, theres enough offensive talent to match the other higher scoring teams in the league IF they play up to their potential. There was almost no way of knowing how productive CK, Hags, or someother players might be in Torts system. In others words, we might be better than we think.
Yea but when they start pressing to score on the PP and still nothing goes in. Inevitably the nerves came - overwhelmed the PP units, and the guys became timid and worthless.
I would just like to see Kreider play with an edge to his game. Then everyone will see an improved player.
If Kreider plays a lot of games like that one shift where he knocked Siedenberg on his butt 3 times in a row, nobody will care about adding a player like Ryan.
I would also like to see Nash play with an edge. He has the size but in the playoffs he was very soft.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you say the same when they fired renney and hired torts? Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Happens with every new coach, Al. Right now the consensus seems to be "with AV as coach everyone will do much better". When he eventually gets fired years from now and a new one is appointed, it'll be the same thing again. "This coach will make everyone better". I personally like the hiring of AV and do think the team will be better with him but we will still have players who underachieve.
Torts was a lot better coach than Renney. Renney was not an NHL coach and he was 5 times worse than Torts offensively. This is the first coach with a proven offensive track record.
The Pouliot signing reminds me of when we acquired Adam Hall. We thought he would be a 2nd/3rd line guy but instead he sucked and we got rid of him for Dupuis who we should have kept. Hopefully he doesnt take a bad turn like Hall did
While people were kissing Renney's butt, I always said he was a hack. He never was and never will be an NHL coach. Torts is an NHL coach. The problem is that he is only capable of winning it all with a very specific type of team. The Rangers weren't that. AV is the first legit, offensive coach we have had in here since Keenan. It should be interesting to see what he does. I suspect if certain players struggle offensively with him, they won't be here that long.
I think Nash is going to come up with at least 45 goals, and Brassard will prove to be one heck of a table setter.
I hope Brassard carries thru what he did in the playoffs. However, what I hope for the most is that the coach creates lines and sticks with them all season.
Yeah if a certain line is finding success, I really hope he sticks with them and doesn't change them up just because he can.
Dear god, that was infuriating watching the endless line shuffling. I think the only two players to stay together all year were McD and Girardi. And even then at the end of the season he started changing that up. I liked the defense first way Torts coached at first, but it got really old, after a few seasons of sitting on pins and needles wondering if the one goal leads would hold up. I'm ready to see some goals! Back to nhl 13 to get my ass kicked. I'm terrible at it, but I needs mah hockey!
