Is Phil Jackson the luckiest coach in the history of the NBA or is he good? He got to coach Michael , PIP , Shaq and Kobe. He has used Tex Winters' Offense to win 6 chips. I think he is Lucky. He hired someone to teach his team an offense and has had the opportunity to coach the best player ever (MJ) and one who is going to challange for that title (Kobe) One of the greatest centres and one of the best defensive and versitile SF evre to play. Lucky IMO
Not a fan of PhilBut I really wouldnt call it lucky...I would call it more of a better opportunity than some other coaches have.Renton, that made zero sense. If he isnt good, then how is he the best coach ever. Are you from Saturn?
There's a difference in a good coach, and being one of the best ever.I think Rick Carlisle is a good coach. But is he on the same level as Phil Jackson? no.Come on now, it's not THAT hard to understand.

you could give it to the other one. Phil Jackson was the best at getting his players to play as a team. he wan't lucky. haven't you noticed that guys like Kobe and MJ weren't winners before Phil arrived?
I would list Red Auerbach over him any day of the week. Phil has came in perfect situations such as Chicago and Los Angeles. Chicago: MJ and PippenLos Angeles: Kobe and ShaqAuerbach came into a situation in Boston where he didnt have great players right when he got there. He was the Coach, GM, and scout for the Celtics. He had to do everything to get those legendary players to come to Boston. What I'm saying is Auerbach created the Celtic dynasty, Phil helped continue it. Red was the better coach.
Phil is good at 2 things. 1. Getting the max potential out of everyone of his players (Luc Longley, Smush, etc.) 2. He can get people to play together and win together (MJ PIP, SHAQ KOBE, LAMAR AND KOBE)

How can you consider that being lucky? MJ and Pippen didn't win a single ring until Phil Jackson came to shed light on their talents. He also had to work through Kobe & Shaq's hatred for one another. Kobe and Shaq didn't seem to make a hard-hitting duo until the Playoffs came around in 2000. You would never had believed that the Lakers were going to win a championship. Also, I would not consider Phil Jackson the greatest coach ever... Red Auerbach is. Name another coach who had his team win eight (count 'em! EIGHT!!!) championship rings in a row? Exactly.
Both. He is a good coach, he's won chips in the CBA before he came Chicago. I think he is a great coach who was lucky enough to have coached some of the greatest players in the NBA.

Red was the better coach.</div>Before this season I myself had doubts about Phil Jackson. We had never seen Phil jackson coach a mediocre talented team. Zards, Phil Jackson was as lucky as MJ/Pippen were. Michael Jordan as we know was a Loser before phil became the head coach. He kept on falling short whether it was in the Semis or the ECF'S. Phil jackson after being Doug collin's assistant is hired. Phil jackson in his first year wins 55 games. He does this with excatly the same talent base. In his 2nd season he wins the whole championship. People said Phil would suffer without MJ. That was put to rest when he won 55 games in 1994. Remember they replaced MJ with a CBA player. There was only a 2 win difference between 1993 and 1994. Lucky? I think not.Again, same story with the Lakers. Shaq and Kobe were not winng before Phil came. They kept on falling in he Semi's and then were sweeped in 1999. Phil Jackson arrives and brings his own offensive scheme with him. He stresses team play. He actually had a training session on how to set Screens. In his first year he leads the lakers to a championship. The Players who were added that year was an old Ron harper, A.C Green and brian shaw. I doubt they were the reason why the same team won the championship whilst a year prior was being sweeped. He got kobe to buy into a team system. He got shaq motivated. He got shaq to play defense (even though it lasted for one year). Lucky? I think not. This year was easily his best coaching job. Our lineup consisted of a streetballer who was a nobody, a guy who's been inconsistent for while career. Two centers, One who so far has been a bust and A foul prone who can't stay on the court longer then 20 minutes. The bench is also abysmal, consisting of a skinny euro who's main achievements is hitting some clutch shots against utah and irritating Mike bibby. A PF who lacks basic Power foward skills. Only thing he does good on defense is position himself on charges. Can anyone explain to me how that team even sniffs the playoffs? You don't even have to look at the win count, all you do is watch the lakers in December and compare them to the lakers in April. Compare their defense from 2004 to 2005. Compare their offensive execution in the 2nd half of the season to the lakers of 2004. No other coach could get that much out of a team like the 2005 lakers. There's a reason why MJ threatened to leave if Phil jackson wasn't resigned. There's a reason why Kobe wanted Phil back. The reason is because he's a proven winner. He has the best percentage in the regular season. He has the best percentage in the playoffs. He's tied for most championships.Best coach ever.
He wasnt the best coach in NBA history. But he was good and everyone has to be lucky. To win a championship you have to be lucky. To make the NBA, you have to be lucky. To get a coach like Phil Jackson, you have to be lucky. To coach a players like Shaq, Kobe, MJ and Pippen, you have to be lucky. He was a good coach but he was pretty lucky. Coaches like Lenny Wilkens were very good coaches but were not as lucky as Phil.
Phil Jackson is the best coach in history. He was a genius. He knows X's and O's like their nothing, he has great strategies, and he just wins championships. Thats all that needs to be said about the guy.For those who say that he's always coaches the best teams, look at the Lakers. Everyone was inconsistent except Kobe, and the year before they even had Caron Butler. They were arguably better the year before. But Phil took them to the 7th seed, and they got robbed of the 2nd round by Steve Nash and the Suns after going up 3-1 on them.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Melo061 @ Sep 12 2006, 03:32 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He's tied for most championships.Best coach ever.</div>I agreed with the rest of your post, but had to point these two statements out. First off, Red Auerbach won more championships. Phil Jackson won a total of 9 (six with Chicago Bulls, 3 with Los Angeles Lakers). Red Auerbach won 16 championships.16 - 9 = 7.Phil needed to win seven more titles to catch up to Red Auerbach. Also, I guess you claiming Phil is the best coach ever is your own opinion. I can't change that. However, you ought to check in on Red Auerbach. He basically single-handedly started the most successful NBA dynasty of all time.
What? Red as a coach won 9 championships. Not 16. A<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>lso, I guess you claiming Phil is the best coach ever is your own opinion. Not who started a dynasty and who scouted the players. Phil jackson as a coach in my eyes is better then red for the reasons I stated before.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (clangus @ Sep 11 2006, 07:20 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>The best ever?? You think that is a bit much? What about Red Auerbach? But not the best ever. I didn't say in that specific post that Jackson is the best ever, I was trying to explain what I meant. So I hope I made it clear, because I didn't want to debate on who's the best coach ever.
