Looking good in the summer league. Fast, MVP of the D league. Can take it to the basket and hits the 3. Can lead the break.

We need all the MVP of the DLeague talent we can get. Cheap.

Did Marco Belinelli score 37 points in Summer League tonight?

Well, if we can extrapolate after one summer league game......

    (ridiculous, I know)

Teague was the fastest guy on the court and was relentless taking the ball up the floor, getting to open spots, and finding open teammates. And his shot still sucks. Right now he looks like he could be Duhon+ if he could learn to shoot open 3 pointers.

Andrew Goudelock would be a passable Nate replacement if we don't bring him back. He's pretty good at jacking up lots of shots. We know he can make them against summer league defenses.

Erick Murphy doesn't look nearly as good when he's not shooting wide open jumpers in practice. More fouls (10) than points, rebounds and assists combined. The Iowa Energy look like they'll have their PF needs fulfilled in a big way this season.

Tony Snell demonstrated what's most intriguing and scary about him as a prospect. He has a nice shooting stroke, competent handle, and clearly the potential to be a disruptor on defense with his insane length. You also didn't really notice he was there.

My sense is Tony is a good team player. You can see he thinks, he sees the whole court, he tries to understand what the team is doing (which is a challenge in summer league -- though Teague's play really did organize them pretty well) and he disrupts what the other team is trying to do. Those are great attributes to have. But yeah, he's not going to be a shot jacker and he won't be an immediate tide-shifter, lke Nate. If he wants to play regular minutes for the Bulls, he's better off focusing on his team play as he has. I think Thibs likes him.

I think he's got a chance to be a regular contributor by the end of the season.

I agree with all this. I don't think the summer league is a good place to display the role he's going to have on the team. Snell played like a guy who's patiently trying to get a handle on things so he can find his spot. Goudelock's playing like a guy who really doesn't want to be making 29k in the NBDL next year.

    Thanks for the reports.

Goudelock had a 20 point game for the Lakers in the playoffs. 26 yesterday 9-15.

I completely agree with your observations on Snell and Murphy from game 1.

Teague is so damn fast! He clearly can get to the basket any time he wanted to!

I noted this is the Augustin thread. I think Teague's play gives Foreman an excuse to not sign another veteran point guard. That's something, if it's not quite what you think about when you think of a player scorching summer league. The game is still moving way too fast for Teague - which I think is responsible for his bad shooting more than anything else -- but I'm curious to see where he's going to be at the end of the season.

Yeah, I could see this. There's something to be said for players who jack up shots without thinking twice. He could be useful coming off the bench in the playoffs.

I'm not quite sure what to make Murphy. He's either the nichiest of niche players or, as you put it, the starting power forward for the Iowa Energy. History says it's probably the latter.

Adrian Griffin is quoted as saying to Murphy, "you are going to be great in this league". My eyes nearly popped out.

Okay, back to Goudelock. Sam Smith has a nice article on him with some interesting info.

I like that Thibs is paying attention and developing a relationship with him.

He's looking for guaranteed money. Feels he's paid his dues.

The Bulls have shown interest, and he's interested in them.

    I agree, it's a good fit.

    (Sorry, Nate)

Damn Denny, you'd be the darkest assistant coach ever. I can just hear you giving your pep talk now, "Yeah, kid. You're too slow to play in the NBA and you will be a nomad free agent by next season. You should ask your wife about moving to Europe."

Well, it was for public consumption. "Great" is a word with actual meaning.

I think we'd all be very happy if he turns into a guy you can put on the floor and won't hurt the cause. He's a 2nd round pick, expectations shouldn't be "Great"

    Make sense?

Yeah it makes sense. I'm just giving you a tough time for wanting Griffin to tell him the truth about what's sadly almost certainly in store.
