    Two presidents have died on the Fourth of July... in the same year, five hours apart. Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on July 4th in 1826.

    Folklore has it that Adams' last words were "Thomas Jefferson survives," yet unbeknownst to Adams, Jefferson had died five hours earlier that day at Monticello.
