He rebounds worse defensively than ml, but "that's fine"

    I gave him love.

I asked in all honesty if he had out rebounded himself from his previous SL games combined

Can't tell if one game of rebounding at SL means anything, but the coaches said they talked to him about it before the game and watched some video. Nice to see that maybe something clicked. It looked like he was blocking out better. Hopefully we can see more of that next season.

When he has a bad game or a great game, he is still the same guy as before said game

    A perfectly decent backup center

I watched Leonard last game and he was very active. If he played like that most the time, you'd hear no beef from me. That's what's he's capable of right now and the improvement is more about timing. He needs to just do fundamentals and let the game eventually come to him.

I think he's too worried about what he needs to do and just do what he's capable of doing. The rest will fall in place.

PS... Is anyone else concerned that he's good at shooting the three? He's got the physique to punish players down low and I worry he will fall in love with that shot.

Although Lambeer was a three point shooter. Fuck what do I know?!

Leonar_ has a decent shot from three for a center. It's his defense that sucks ass

I will admit that it looks really good.

That's what I was saying in the post before this one. If he just kept it simple and played fundamentals; he'd be totally fine. I actually think he's over thinking it too much and gets lost.

I have to admit, if he's always going to be clueless on defense, at least he's improving towards his streangths... 7'1" SF? :ghoti:

I know you're being facetious, but how many small forwards pull down 13 rebounds?

Yeah, I know it's summer league and it's just one game, but it's a step in the right direction. I'm also encouraged that it was against one of the best front lines in Las Vegas. The Morris twins are both third year players that were lottery picks and started 55 games between them last season.

I hope Meyers can build on it and have another solid game against Minnesota tonight. It would be nice to see him end summer league on a high note and go into training camp with a renewed sense of confidence. Whatever the coaches told him before the game last night worked. Maybe he just needs a little more encouragement, guidance and positive reinforcement. He's still a kid and still learning. He seems to be everyone's favorite whipping boy these days. Rather than give him so much shit in this forum when he has a bad game, wouldn't it be nice if the fans of the team he plays for would give him a little credit and encouragement when he has a good game?

He played solid post defense against PHX. Granted, it was against Markief Morris, but he held his ground on the block.

Which is odd to me, because he wasn't drafted to produce right away. This board needs a scapegoat though.

Well why keep complaining about it? What's done is done. Bitching about it nonstop isn't going to accelerate Meyer's progress on the court.

    Rather have Withey

After watching Withey in SL, I think I'd prefer they'd have packaged Meyers instead of him. I haven't compared their combine numbers, and he certainly doesn't look it, but I think Withey may be the better athlete. From the eyeball test, he moves better laterally and just moves a little quicker. Maybe that's his superior instincts making him look physically quicker, but no matter the means, he reacts quicker. I think they run the floor about the same.

Meyers probably has better offensive upside, but the team badly needs a low post defender and general tough guy. Withey is looking much more capable of that from my perspective.

While I also wish we'd kept Withey over Meyers, Withey struck me as very skinny and puny.

Seriously this board is ridiculous sometimes. If Withey was anywhere NEAR the same prospect as ML then he wouldn't have been there halfway through the second round. ML went 11 in a BETTER draft because of how psychically gifted he is. Withey is nowhere near as athletic as ML and he was a four year player I hope to hell he would look more polished then ML or there is no way in hell he stays in the NBA. With how rail thin Withey looks he may not make it in the NBA as it is. I wish we had kept Withey as well but not over ML.
I know people need a scapegoat but ML was drafted a 2 to 3 year project at least, not a guy to step in and produce immediately.

Who agrees with this assessment of Leonard:

I have to say that what stood out for me, especially in the last game (where he got the 13 boards) was that he never catches the ball and makes an immediate move. He catches the ball and has to pause to think. And the worst moment was when he was given the ball right by the hoop, but in a bit of a crowd, and he got spooked and ran away from the rim out towards the three point line. It was almost comical. Compare this with JJ Hickson, who, for all his flaws, was an instinctual finisher.
