This could make for one hell-of-a discusion. I'll start with this...... 1) Giving opt out clauses in long term contracts. Giving players the right to a do over. I mean what kind of shit is that? 2) I know its been 40 years but the DH, its time the NL started using it. 3) The stupid decision to have the ASG decide the HFA in the WS. Here's why its really dumb. They give the vote to the fans to pick there FAVORITE players. Who are not necessarily the BEST players. So if the game is serious enough to decide HFA in the WS then it should be serious enough to put the BEST players on the field & not fan favorites. 4) And lastly I know everyone loved the HR chase in 98 between McGwire & Sosa. including our brain dead commish. But I think it started a landslide of major proportions for PEDs. Hell most people believe that Bonds saw all the attention, got jealous & started to follow suit. And many others followed. What do you guys think? Discuss.
1. yup 2. I actually still don't like the DH and wish they'd do away with it. 3. yup...the team with the best record should have HFA...or simply alternate years...the ASG should have no bearing on HFA. 4. the 98 HR chase had a lot to do with Bonds feeling left out...if only he and ARod and others had not decided to cheat...but they did and the game is in a mess because of it...and a whole generation of ball players are under suspicion to one degree or another.
refresh my memory, we use to alternate the HFA for the WS right? Or was it best record? I really forget. Either way, I hope the new commish does away with this stupid rule. But I doubt it.
They used to alternate. The decision to make the ASG about HFA in the World Series is completely ridiculous.
1. Absolutely! not only the opt out clauses, but the long term contract periods... they should play to earn their worth... not just be hot for a couple of years and then be set for life... 2. I agree about the DH... it isn't going anywhere and the NL needs to adapt... 3. I agree! the HFA should be earned, not just ultimately decided by fan voting which currently allows for ballot stuffing... 4. PED's have done a tremendous disservice to this sport... and all sports for that matter...
And yet doesn't it always seem to be about baseball? I never hear of a basketball player being suspended for PEDs & I don't remember the last time any one in football was suspended for PEDs. And most NFL (aka National felon league) players are built like brick shit houses. Go figure.
It has been talked about in football and I could give 2 shits about basketball... don't follow that at all so I have no clue about it...
Oh yeah, its been TALKED about in football but I don't remember the last time anyone was actually suspended for it.
1.) Marvin Miller estate should be receiving a lifetime commission for what he did for the players and their agents. We have been blessed with the core 4 and such, but fans can no longer associate themselves with teams. If you have 4 or 5 players on a team today that play together for 5 or 6 seasons it's a record. 2.) I feel that the MLB rules should be the same for both American and National leagues. Granted also, it takes away from strategies and managers ability to out manage another manager nightly. Sit back and wait for the 3 run HR. 3.) My answer for HFA. The winner of the World Series, their league gets Home Field Advantage the following year. The All Star Game is like the Globetrotters vs the Generals. 4.) PEDS have changed the landscape in many sports, just ask Lance Armstrong? However, it will be interesting to see how the union and MLB co-exist going forward.
The HFA in the world series just needs to go back to the way it use to be.. Alternate years. And the sad thing about what guys like Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro, Bonds etc did was, anytime a player is having a good year. (Chris Davis) he's going to be under suspicion.
