CC back when the score was 6-3 or even before that, we would be in good shape. I don't like second guessing Joe but he gives CC to much leash.
CC used to "gut and grind" his way through what seemed like every start the last year or so as his skills were starting to fail him, and it was reason to leave him in to eat innings. Gut and grind has now become give up moon shots and hits at a ridiculous pace. He is pitching like a back end starter and should be treated as such. CC lost that game last night. Not the offense, not Adam Warren. The yankees are simply without hope if Andy and especially CC cannot pitch better and more consistently. Which is why talks of adding players to this team at this point makes zero sense to me. The offense sucks yes, but if the yankees have 1 reliable starter whats the point?
The thing that pisses me off the most about CC. He seriously comes out and pitches lights out. And one bit of trouble he folds like a punk bitch! It's so damn annoying. I wasn't watching the game last night. I was following on my phone. And I was reading the blogs on espn from the experts. They said of the first inning. "14 pitches for CC in the first inning. 13 of them strikes and the one that wasn't a strike was a HBP on Ellsbury" That is pretty damn dominant to start off the game. Then just a bit later he fucks up the game! What is up with this dude?
He didnt really "fold", he just has failed to adjust to having a hittable fastball. He seems lost, dazed, and unsure where to go. Napoli can pretty much ONLY beat you on a hittable fastball in the zone. CC goes up 1-2 on the count and what does he try to do? Blow a fastball by him. BOOM yet another HR lauched into the night. Until CC realizes he isnt the same pitcher anymore and starts adjusting, he will continue to look more like a #5 than a top rotation guy. His days as an Ace are clearly done, but it would be nice if he could remain a top end starter to some degree. He isn't anymore.
Sweeney Murti said it's mind boggling that it's taking a veteran with other pitches in his arsenal to take so long to adjust to not having the same dominant fastball. I would have to agree. Sabathia is still trying to blow balls past people and is serving up homers at a record pace.
Blue, I agree with you, it is a total breakdown of every facet of the organization. Pitching is very inconsistant. Hitting has 1600 HRs on DL, need I say more Minors, no fix just retreads and bandaids. There is just to much to fix, which I think Hammer or Rick said last week and unfortunately the run is over. Time to build a new one.
The question becomes how will this team be rebuilt? I'm hoping its through building up the farm, I just don't see there being much success with this as the farm hasn't been good the last few years... the team needs a complete overhaul from the top down...
I feel the loss in velocity and thus sharper breaking balls is allowing the hitters more or better contact. There was not a lot of swing and misses like you use to see. By the way Welcome to the board.
CC used to be the guy who would gutt it when he was off. Seems he's rarely on this season and when he's off he's getting clobbered. Hard to feel comfortable with him on the mound after losing leads to division rivals in big games recently. I think he's not 100% - or I guess I'm hoping that so there's at least a reason and some hope for next season. The ace is coming up small.
