Reading the link in the OP, the marriage seemed to have an arrangement where he could do his thing on the side.

Living a straight lifestyle has worked pretty well for Duncan. He's rich, a superstar, etc.

Bingo. I don't know anything about Tim Duncan's private life. However, I know his basketball game pretty well. I prefer it that way. What he does once he walks off the court is his own business.

Agreed. Have long thought that if Duncan or Jefferson invited me over for a hot tub party to make damn sure that women were going too.

So you are saying that he could not have done the same thing if he would have been openly gay?

yup. Unless an athlete's off the court business involves breaking laws especially in a way that could negatively impact others (DUI etc...), I really don't want to know. Just real off a few cliches for the sportscasters and go do your thing. I'll continue to enjoy/judge an athlete for what they do between the lines

But they're not out. Magic insists he's straight.

So if a straight friend came up to you and said "Hey! Guess what? I'm getting married. I just asked her last night and she said YES!", would you respond by saying "Umm.. That's your business. I don't care"? That questions goes for you too, maxie. We're talking about two things here though. Of course, when it comes to basketball, I just want them to play good basketball.

I'm watching golf highlights and Andy North just said, "he sunk it with his sand wedge in a really tight, awkward hole".

A couple years ago at the US Open I put together about 3 minutes of audio of people saying things like that together. Funniest thing ever....... I'll find it and post it.

Was gonna say Josh Selby, but you've got to be in the league to be in this discussion...

I'm hoping Tim Duncan actually is gay. After 16 years of dominating as the best PF in the history of the game, it'll be the first time he'll actually be a marketable asset for the sport.

If he's not, we'll still have our new Commissioner for gay kids to idolize.

Tim Duncan isn't my friend. He's a guy I root for on TV who I'm unlikely to meet let alone form a friendship with. If he were my friend I'd care about how his off court life is going. As it is, I wish the best for him and everyone else I don't know (athlete or not) but I just don't have a desire to dig into the personal lives of strangers. I'm fine with enjoying athletes plying their trade and then turning off the TV or going home and enjoying the real relationships with those around me

Why hasn't living a straight lifestyle made ME a millionaire? I'm confused. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Duncan is incredibly good at basketball?

I'm sure there are professional Polish assassins who say the same thing to Interpol when they're caught.

I don't know. Probably, but then again, in sports they may be more homophobic than we know.

What I do know is he lived the straight lifestyle. And that it worked out very well for him.

What I also know is that if his friends and family weren't in on the arrangement, then he lived a lie and lied to those people. Otherwise, it's nobody's business IMO.

No, Duncan is none of our personal friend. But it was noted here when Kevin Durant got engaged. When Tony Parker and Eva Longoria came to a parting of the ways. Do you think if Paul Allen decided to tie the knot with someone the board wouldn't be buzzing?

I'm not friends with anyone here, really, Spud & Blazer Caravan at least I've met, so I can call them friends. But that never stopped people here from letting us know about marriages, divorces, and other personal matters.

But let someone talk about anything related to being gay and it's OMG I don't want to hear about your personal life why can't you keep it to yourself!!!!! (clutch pearls and faint) As Kingspeed says, why the double standard? (well, we know why)

That being said, I also take rumors spread during divorce with a pinch of salt, although I have no evidence Ms. Duncan is mentally deranged.

Too easy. I was thinking more along the lines of a new spin on The Big Fundamental.
